Chatty
I talked to my friends about new gen. workers. We have the same comments. They can't wake up early, irresponsibility cuz they think if they can't make it we will support them. To be honest, I have one in my team, I stopped talking about work with her, cuz I know myself, I'm impatiens. I used to do that but her feedback is quite strong, yelling, crying, insulting... stuff like that. If I wanna tell her to do something, I have to explain, give every details, even I do that, it's quite hard to make her understand. She works day by day, no inspiration, no creativites, not a risk taker, never think of out the box. I thought new gen. should have this kinda stuff. Why? We discuss in our gen. group, we quite agree that, they can't see things in big picture. gosh!! Right now, it's getting to my nerves. Sometimes I think my patience almost reach to the top of mountain. I don't know if any of you guys have same experience, what's the best way to deal with it? I thought books about Gen Y. can help, but it's harder than I thought.
FarangFarang
Fire them. Sooner or later you'll run into people who really want the job and are willing to do the work. Either that or deal with it and leave a little early each night and let the air out of the tire in their cars.

I thought books about Gen Y. can help, but it's harder than I thought. What I found out is that the generation you are referring to is a) not able to listen. You tell them something and I think they only understand blablabla because in their mind, they are with something completely different if they listen, they only get the parts they like and not everything. Again, they are far, far away in their minds but at least, they get something.... c) they have not the slightest idea what the outcome of their tasks should be. They just do something without thinking WHY they are doing it. And for the third time, the supervisor as well as the worker himself get some additional time to work in order to get things straigt. At another forum, I once said that it is a pity that we are not allowed ti use the good old whiplash anymore. It might sound cruel, but with a few lashes, I think brains would start to work properly again.... (well, that's not completely seriuos now...)
