CMG_UK
so.......does anyone know the best route to the new airport? or shall we continue on about bad grammar and spelling? It's about 35B to get there on the bus. Many new routes have started running. I have seen one go down Sukhumvit. Not very frequent yet but that's probably because the airport is not properly open yet. How long does it take? I live around Silom area and tomorrow I'm going back to my lil island to my lil room How long does any bus journey take in this city? Can be fast, can be slow. Allow plenty of time I think. They say the roads between the old and new airports are going to be chaos for the next couple of days as they move everything across.
frankenburner2
How did you get down there and what was the cost? I will be using it to fly back to the Uk in a couple of weeks I took a taxi from sukhumvit...near nana BTS....5am....about 160 baht....30 minutes...he did NOT take the expressway...I guess at that time he felt it wasn't needed. Coming home at 5pm...INSIST HE TAKE THE EXPRESSEWAY!!!!!....OTHERWISE YOU'LL GET CAUGHT IN RUSHHOUR TRAFFIC ON PETCHBURI ROAD!
Stu_thailand
and it take prolly mad skillz from a pilot to land safely. Reminds me of a vid clip I have of a 747 landing at Kai Tak in extreem crosswinds. Will post it in journals...take a look, it's scary!!!!
Yaa
I took a taxi from On-noot BTS station around 6 PM. around 30 mins 209 baht. The airport is so huge! Me and my BF were so hungry so we tried to find a restaurant there. There has only ONE restaurant and looks so expensive. So we decided to get some food from Family mart. everthing is new and i've been there first time but thanks god! I didn't get lost as I always do. frankenburner2
Arrived there yesterday at 5pm, I was stuck in Manila for 1 extra day because of the typhoon.Nice and airy, but walkways still have almost non-existent aircon, just like Don Muang. Nice materials, quick to get out. A bit dim though but some similarities to CDG. Immigration was slow as usual but saw some smiles on their faces. Mostly the grim looks however. LOS still begins past immigration. Long walkways like in Changi, but not enough hand-luggage carts. Should be placed at gates. Waiting area outside customs for public is way too narrow, totally overcrowded and difficult get through. Blocks the oversight too. Tax-free shops don't display the prices, have to check the tags on each item. Annoying. I took the escalator downstairs to the public taxi stand, which was not so well sign-posted. Almost same hassle with traffic as at the old airport. Getting out of there at 5.30pm onto the motorway was jampacked. Dunno what they've messed up with it but the flow was not smooth at all. The traffic grinded to a halt about 500m before the motorway entrance, still in the airport area. Took 20min to clear. Saw no particular airport-relocating related traffic so I doubt that was the cause. It took me 1hr35min to get to Ratchada at 290bt incl 50bt surcharge and total of 36kms. There are plenty of public buses, have a list of their numbers and destinations. Will add them to this post later. They didn't have a schedule though but flying out on Sunday I'll try to find one. All in all I'd say it's better than I expected, even for the location. The initial announcement of 1200bt limo service spooked me off but that's not the only option at all. The 50bt surcharge for taxi I have no problem in paying. Welcome to the new BKK intl airport - you'll be pleased with it surprised passing through immigration was slow...they've got like a bazillion boothes....guess they weren't all manned...anyway...good report...i assume you were one of the luucky ones to get your luggage!? condotown
I was just there last night and it's not as bad as it could be. Go while the parking is still free!! The worst part is that there are two international arrival exit doors and the information of what flights are coming out of what doors are not posted. Finding people can be difficult. Door A is for domestic arrivals and B and C are for international arrivals.

frankenburner2
actually..one of my students, an engineer, works for the company that designed the air con system. Apparantly, they have cooled water running through the floor...and yes, they have had complaints about it NOT being 100% yet...they are working on it. Personally, I don't see how a "floor based cooling system" works in an area 25meters high....anyway...wait see if it improves!

When the first 25 meter high person starts complaining about their head being hot, maybe they will install roof mounted air conditioners. My understanding is that it was only supposed to keep the bottom 2.5 m cool.
