SFDJ
hello all, I'm going to be in bangkok in a couple of weeks and would love to check out some galleries with up-n-coming young thai artists (paintings and photography)....and possibly bring a few pieces with me back home. I'm also interested in checking out modern thai furniture and crafts. any advice on a neighborhood or a favorite gallery? cheers. pwang!

khun_lung
In bkk there are plenty of private art galleries. But you might also want to check out some of the works from Silpakorn and Chulalongkorn Universities which both have outstanding art departments. There are TF members here from both universities that might volunteer to show you around.

SFDJ
well, here's a major gallery exhibit in San Francisco right now: http://www.sfstation.com/article.php?articleId=971 there's even been a documentary on HBO about this exhibit. - i guess the line between sex and art has long been blurred. - and yes i agree ... there are some great works of art in BKK. PaperFlower
I suggest you go to ..Sil-PeraSri Art Gallery at Taprajun area close to The Grand Palace in Bkk. That is the big Art Gallery and open all week except monday. If you wanna see the biggest art and handicraft .Please go to Queen Sirikit Handicraft Center at Bangsai Ayuttaya(90 kms. far from bkk). I think you can get a lots ideas from there. Or you can go the Thai Art Culture Centre (Big hall that exhibit an old Thai art)at Platumtani (50 kms far from BKK). And Thai Culture Art(about ways of life) at Navanakorn area Rungsit(40 kms far from bkk). This place is a really big Agriculture Thai art Ehibitions shown inside building and outside also.
