babyoiy
Apparently, some English language skill is required or at least is the advantage for most jobs nowadays. Given that you are not a new graduate, have work experience, English language is a part of your routine life but you didn't go to study abroad nor international program thus you don't have IELTS/TOEFL or any paper showing that you're a good one, would you provide your TOEIC score when you will apply for a job?? And if you had done it before but since it valid for 2 years only from test date then will you test again when you happen to look for a new job after few years. Necessary? or just let your CV show it all?
Chatty
I did TOEIC before last year. I didn't get good score enough as I expect... 700 points  So I will go for it again next month. For my company TOEIC is important, you can show them when you apply for every job positions. and for me I will get extra pay for that... 4000 baht every month for the person who could do 850 points up. (renew every 2 years)

(renew every 2 years) I saw PTTEP's ads, TOEIC of 650 is required... so I guess 700 is not bad. First time of mine which was 3 years ago I got 570 only and that 's why I tested again last Sat. and I almost make 800. I think I'll test again if I'm sure I can make 900+ otherwise, I won't waste thb1200 to discover that I'm not improved.

Spearthrower
One good thing to remember is that TOEIC is basically a comprehension test. You're tested on listening and reading comprehension skills with a touch of writing/grammatical accuracy. The good thing about that is that you can totally immerse yourself in listening from the radio, tv, cinema etc. for a few weeks and you will see an improvement. You can also read newspapers etc. daily and improve your vocabulary that way. It's not so good for those people who have learned English the "natural" way through speaking and communicating with native English speakers. While they might have fantastic listening skills, they might be lacking the grammatical awareness. When we do placement tests at my school, we use a TOEIC standard but we add in a speaking test to try to get a wider picture of the person's ability. http://www.englishclub.com/esl-exams/ets-toeic-practice.htm This site is a good resource for further practice! Spearthrower
I never took a TOEIC though, so dont know whether it is difficult  However, before I went to the UK for a master's degree, I'd taken an IELTS exam and I got a score of 6.5, good enough to get me through an MA program. As far as I remember, something completely freaked me out while taking a listening test ......... its a SCOTTISH accent :!: That's cruel and unnecessary!! I love the scots accent butthe broader ones are bloody hard to understand even as a native speaker. The new TOEIC now has listening parts from a variety of different accents: the British guy's accent on there is hilarious. IELTS is much more comprehensive (and difficult) test and specifically focused at academic English requirements. TOEIC is more work oriented with a lot of focus on understanding the relationship between objects in a sentence and on comprehension of similar sounding words etc.
babyoiy
TOEIC is kind of easy. IELTS is complex, deeper.. (whatever u call) and the fee is more expensive U can just walk in and test TOEIC but IELTS/TOEFL, u gonna need to read and prepare yourself a lot. I never IELTS test myself but my friend. I interview her briefly how was IELTS exam.. I'm a curious baby! 8) IELTS is British, so they maybe want to make u use to with the accent by have a Scottish accent one to read for u..
