Darkness

Sorry didnt have Thai translation - if someone wants to add...      World Wide Darkness - September 17, 2008 On Wednesday, September 17, 2008, I invite people around the world to turn off their lights for ten minutes – from 9:50pm to 10:00pm in their local time zone.   Castellano: Oscuridad mundial: En Septiembre 17, 2008 desde las 21:50 a las 22:00 horas. Se propone apagar todas las luces y si es posible todos los aparatos eléctricos, para que nuestro planeta pueda 'respirar'. S

Chastised and thankful!!

Would like to say big thanks to Japamerican and PiAnt for rescinding my yellow card after reviewing video evidence (well after my apology and their very good natures!!)I was daft enough to create a duplicate profile (Ignorantus) in order to satirise some of the recent idiots who have come on TF and been a bit arrogant, misogynist and slightly racist. There was no malicious intent of any type, no plan to scam people or advertise services (another reason the card was rescinded) but, at the end of t

just finished reading this (strangely on prominent display in small East Glasgow library) and while not the best written book I have come across, it was thoroughly honest and eye opening. Has anyone else read it??

Proud to be a Scot

Triple gold medallist Chris Hoy has said he was "overwhelmed" by the reception on his return to Scotland, as 50,000 lined Edinburgh's Royal Mile. An open-top bus carrying the four Scots who won medals at the Olympics made its way from a special reception at Edinburgh Castle to Holyrood Park. Scotland's most successful Olympian said it was "fantastic" to be home. Hoy, 32, was joined by cycling team-mate Ross Edgar, rower Katherine Grainger, and canoeist David Florence.   The cyclist tol

Well the move is done, (most) of the boxes and bags are unpacked, but I am still not bloody well online!!! Orgnised everyhting with Sky in advance but what no-one told me is that the area I am in has communal sky dishes and connection must be arranged with property factors!!!! So, a week later and my sattelite has just been turned on (at a cost of £30 to Sky and £80 to the factors - grumble grumble) which means that only now can I contact Sky and ask for wireless router etc to be sent, which c

For the DJ's

Normally, being known as a DJ on a 'mobile disco' isnt very flattering; poor equipment, drunken relatives and awful tunes, but perhaps this car will take mobile discos into the 21st century?     or maybe this one??

The wonderful Mae West!!

a woman ahead of her time (1892 -1980); strong and independent and she knew what she wanted!! Some great one liners from her; Opportunity knocks for every man, but you have to give a woman a ring.? ?When women go wrong, men go right after them.? ?It's not the men in my life that counts--it's the life in my men.? When choosing between two evils, I always like to try the one I've never tried before.? ?It's not what I do, but the way I do it. It's not what I say, but the way I say it.? ?I spe

a thought for Friday...

Thought you would love this one!! This is a story about A Fly, a Fish, a Bear A Hunter, a Mouse and a Cat. There is a moral to this story...... (Maybe not the one Most of you expect.... So, read on!) In the dead of summer a fly was resting among leaves beside a stream. The hot, dry fly said to no one in particular, 'Gosh...if I go down three inches I will feel the mist From the water and I will be refreshed.' There was a fish in the water thinking, 'Gosh..

Going home...

Today is my last day in my current job as I am moving home to civilisation (ie Scotland) after 3 years in Hull. I am happy to be moving home as I have missed friends and family but it is also tinged with sadness as I am leaving behind some amazing colleagues who really care about their work! I am also going to miss some of my clients as, with some of them, we have moved so far forward since we started our work together. 2 in particular stand out. First there is Linda (not her real name for obvio

Pavement art

This is some amazing stuff by a Belgian guy called Julian Beever. He draws in such a way that the art turns into an optical illusion, giving the impression of depth or height.

My dad...

I have been thinking for last couple of years that I wanted to get a memorial stone for my dad who died in 1994. I finally got it together last month and at the weekend we had the stone put in at a cemetery in his home town. He was my best friend later in life after a few years not seeing eye to eye, and I discovered so many great things about him that I never knew; he took a motorbike from Scotland to India in 1954 - way before the hippy trail - and spent 3 months there. The he moved to live in

Thursday's thought for the day...

from the late and very great Bill Hicks...   I've learned a lot about women. I think I've learned exactly how the fall of man occured in the Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden, and Adam said one day, "Wow, Eve, here we are, at one with nature, at one with God, we'll never age, we'll never die, and all our dreams come true the instant that we have them." And Eve said, "Yeah... it's just not enough is it?"

Thought for the day

Life is a brief, small, and transitory phenomenon in an obscure corner, not at all the sort of thing that one would make a fuss about if one were not personally concerned”

questions or answers?

“The answer is never the answer. What's really interesting is the mystery. If you seek the mystery instead of the answer, you'll always be seeking. I've never seen anybody really find the answer -- they think they have, so they stop thinking. But the job is to seek mystery, evoke mystery, plant a garden in which strange plants grow and mysteries bloom. The need for mystery is greater than the need for an answer.”

a blind man walks into a restuarant...

A blind man walks into a resturant A blind man walks into a restaurant and sits down. The waiter, who is also the owner, walks up to the blind man and hands him a menu. "I'm sorry sir, but I am blind and can't read the menu. Just bring me a dirty fork from a previous customer, I'll smell it and order from there." A little confused, the owner walks over to the dirty dish pile and picks up a greasy fork. He returns to the blind man's table and hands it to him. The blind man puts the fork to h

Happy Beltane to one and all!!!!

Beltane is a Celtic word which means 'fires of Bel' (Bel was a Celtic deity). It is a fire festival that celebrates of the coming of summer and the fertility of the coming year.Celtic festivals often tied in with the needs of the community. In spring time, at the beginning of the farming calendar, everybody would be hoping for a fruitful year for their families and fields.Beltane rituals would often include courting: for example, young men and women collecting blossoms in the woods and lighting
