My Sukhothai Weekend

After a 7 hour bus trip we arrived in Sawanakholok just after 5 am.  It's very nice travelling through the night because most of the time is spent sleeping.  A short Tuk-Tuk ride brought us to the Sangsin Hotel.  A small 4 floor hotel with no elevator, but very beautiful.  The hotel restaurant didn't open until 7am, so after a quick shower and change of clothes and a short time playing with the cable TV, we were downstairs eating our American breakfast.  Before we had finished, Lem, Phong's sister arrived and we were off to the market.  This rather large market center is just 3 blocks from the hotel, with what seems like endless rows of everything you could ever care to buy.  But we were there for food and drink, so we were off to the village in no time. The first thing you notice(besides all the farms) is the quiet.  No highways, no construction, no factories . . . just miles of quiet . . with only a motorcycle or tractor occassionally breaking the silence.  The First day was a day of getting re-acquainted with everyone and ended with a nice dinner at an outdoor restaurant near the hotel.  Day 2 started out much the same.  We planned a day trip to the Temple where Phong and Lem's father was creamated and then to the Keang Song Waterfalls.  This day ended with a Birthday Party for Lem which went well into the night.  Day 3 was a day of rest.  We just stayed around the village nursing our hangovers.  When nightfall came it was back to the bus station and we were wondering where did those 3 days go??Here's a link to my photos: http://545252864.slide.com/p/4/Sukhothai+Jan+2007?view=true Have a great day!!   ;)
