University researchers discovered that women shown pictures of couples in racy positions exhibited more brainwave activity than when they saw non-sexy photos.

A survey for Esquire magazine last year found that 51 per cent of UK women liked looking at pornography.

A third of the subscribers to adult channel Television X are said to be female and Scarlet, a saucy mid-shelf magazine for women, sells 30,000 copies a month.
