Happy Diwali

Well here I am, still in Delhi, but now alone.

Yes Grezzzy left on an Air India flight this morning. The original flight was supposed to be at 8.45 am, but after delays and many different stories about the expected time for the flight, she eventually left at 11am.

We had been told to get her to the airport three hours before the flight, so we were there at just after 5.30am, and you can imagine how impressed Grezzzy was about having to wait around for such a long time in such a grotty airport.

Unfortunately Delhi’s International Airport is really filthy. They are working to upgrade it, but in the meantime, it is not a nice place to have to wait for long periods of time.

Today (Thursday) is the eve of Diwali, the Indian Festival of Light. It’s the equivalent of Christmas in the rest of the world, and like that festival, gifts are exchanged, and families visit each other and celebrate.

I was lucky enough to be given a lovely Diwali gift by the people at the office here. It is a large glass bowl that contains some nice chocolates and cookies, a small pack of mixed nuts, and a larger bag of cashews, three nice candles in decorative clay pots, and a terracotta image of Lord Ganesh, the Elephant headed god.

So I think I should say a very Happy Diwali to you if you are of Indian origin, or if you are just enjoying celebrating the Festive Season with us here in India.

It’s a cool evening, but the locals are out in force – traffic is really dreadful, but that’s not stopping the families from having a great time…and as I said, it’s only Diwali Eve so far…!  J

Also I want to say a very heartfelt thanks to my lovely Grezzzy for spending time with me here, and I am looking forward to seeing you again soon my love.

paulgh3rd - yeah yeah... just a softie at heart

pilantaneej - thanks! Enjoy the big day!

freetheworld - great! Isn't it strange that Festivals of Light should be held coming into the northern Winter, just when it's getting dark earlier. Maybe they are based on more ancient ceremonies to try to chase away the cold winters...Apparently it gets very cold here in December!

Wish I was in Bangkok...keeping warm with my lovely fiance!
