Prices are most likely less in the U.K. but you won't have the advantage of a dual-language keyboard. And if you decide to buy in Thailand, you can control the language function and no, you won't have to take a crash course in reading Thai.

Prices of hardware are not cheap in BKK, usually a little cheaper than elsewhere but not much. The risk u take buying a laptop here is if it breaks down while u are not in Thailand. Getting cover can be difficult whereas all my laptops from Swwitzerland I can easily get service here in bangkok, anf good service too. I live here so I am happy to buy here, and I also bought universal cover for my Apple laptop. If u do buy go to one of the reputabel and branded resellers, such as the appl stores or sony or fujitsu. don't for god's sake buy from a back street shop just to save a few bucks.

I think that i recall that the two cheapest markets for consumer electronics are #1 the USA, and #2 Hong Kong. My info may be old on this point but I do have info from a farang friend of mine who deals in computers concerning laptop computers. Bottom line, stay away from ASUS, toooo many warrenty returns.

On another note regarding used laptops, avoid them, do you really want somebody elses (potentially) used and abused laptop? If you do, buy mine! Original owner, never dropped, everything works great on it, and it's 6 years old. Oh, BTW, it is on it's 3rd mother board, which i replaced myself along with the other two...

Did I metion that the heat is a big killer of laptops over here? Yeah, it is, maybe you'll consider a desktop PC unless you *really* need a loptop. Also, they're cheaper than laptops too...

Do I *really* need a laptop here in Bangkok? No... but I keep mine going... for now...
