They scare me to death, dont have many fears in life and snakes top the list by far for me. I know there are many, many poisonous types in Thailand that can easily kill. Anybody had a run-in or seen one in the wild in Thailand??I guess there are many sightings out in the villages away from cities.

When I worked in Phuket firt time, 12 years ago, used to see one maybe every other day. I returned in 2004, and saw TWO in the whole year I was there. I huess they have all re-located (Can snakes re-locate?) due to the fast growth of the place.

Bangkok...never seen one yet.

I am afraid of them also, BUT, remember, they are more afraid of us than we of them, if you ever do come across one, just pretend you have not seen it and calmly walk away, but most important of all, make sure you don't let it feel that it is cornered with no means of escape.

Ssssssssssssssssssssss:)

Will tell you a story about snakes.

I lived in Koh Samui for 6 month, I took tourists to some places there, mostly to the djungle. Try to teach them, what to do, and not to do, but tourists are tourists, some good guys, but far to many idiots, who dont want to learn and understand the life of the nature.

Anyway, I was with a group of 15 people, in the middle of nowhere, sitting on a log and try to explain about a pretty dangerous plant, when I suddenly felt like a wasp sting on my lower right hip, and guess what it was, right, it was a 35 cm king cobra, they can be awful big around 3-5 m, dependeing where.

My luck was that it was a small little basterd, fangs about 2-3 mm, so he only injected in my big ass :o))

never come down to any nervs or musculs, we had about 3 km to walk back to the cars, after about 25 min I started to feel a little weard, swett, hot, increased breading, puls go up.. But with help we come to the cars, by then I fealt really like ****, tremor blurry vision and so on.

They took me to hospital, and it was full alert there, some guy called via cellphone and told them I will come and what happends.

But good treatment, no food, only drink like hell "not beer" **** :o)

Some IV stuff, and after a few days, back in business.

Nice experience, good for your mind really, think I havea little more respect for the djungle now, but I'm not afraid of snakes, **** happens. My biggest fear in life is SPIDERS, but that is another story...

Good advise: If you seee a snake, just walk backwards, and take another route, if you must pass, take a stick and hit the ground " not them" and make some noise, that works. only time they bite you, is if you step on them, teasing, or just mess around with them. If you leave them alone, they leave you alone !

I was driving to school on my scooter. The road has a canal on one side and rice paddies on the other. I saw that someone had left what looked like a piece of small irrigation pipe in the road. I got really irritated. "God damn. That's really uncool just to leave stuff like that in the road." I'm trying to decide if I can possibly slow down and drive over it or have to go around when I saw that it had a head. We both recognized what the other was at the same time and I swerved into the other side of the road and it slithered off down the canal. Don't know what kind of snake it was. Big though.
