I'm thinking of writing a book which would technically be a follow up to a book my ex read on our first trip to thailand together (she's was born in bkk grew up in germany) called "patpong sisters". I read the book also and so many things have changed in Thailand and so many things have stayed the same. I am especially interested in how go-go girls and sex workers engage in the trade. Since in the US being a prostitute is usually only a call girl or street walker and Thailand's sex industry is so much more different. This is coupled with being such a conservative culture. I have a lot of great friends in Thailand all of whom are professionals and have never considered or needed to become go-go's or sex workers. So I my idea is to make friends with a cpl of girls like 2 or 3 one very new, one in for a little while and one in long time and maybe get their stories and day-to-day lives for like a year. Show how even these girls are not sex objects who are more then happy to get laid but the more complex side of reality of the industry. I was thinking of calling "Thailand a go-go"

(lives out side the bowl)What do you guys think? Since I don't live in Thailand ... deep sigh of sadness... I just have to either find them through friend of a friend type deal and correspond through email and im or wait until I move there. Which just means even longer to get it out! Give me some input especially if anyone who has a friend who was headed or is in school for a degree and also works as go-go girl.

I have had many trips to Thailand and it seems every lost soul on earth thats been to Thailand has written a book,as soon as you land in BKK there are thousands of books about Thailand,Patpong,Soi Cowboy,Pattaya and a lot of them have some interesting stories but once you read a few they become very boring.

Most of the good books are in the more prominent bookshops and are illustrated well.

Good Luck with the book.

There's competition to write a book about any subject. The fact that there is an abundance of books about Thailand for westerners shouldn't deter you. However I honestly don't think you are going to gather too much subject matter by corresponding with Thai prostitutes by email. I reckon for a non fictional book such as this you really need to be here to research and write it.

Some seriously have minds in the gutters, I have been to thailand and been to a gogo with thai friends who took me. Sooo seriously get your minds out of the gutters because it's not a guide book to bars or just a book for westerners like that nor looking for hookups. Although mallard you make a good point about probably needing to be there for more information like groups to help girls get out business, girls who were in the business and got out and made something of themselves without marrying some farang.

finding prostitues is easy enough in any country you euopeans and you're red light districts know this more then enough! However someone who introduces you to another already give the expectation that is not just another farang looking for sex.

So, please do not lump me in with people like that!

There is a great book called The Pole Dancer to that had nothing to do with prostitution, but thats where the hit man meet his love.

Many good books around with out Prostitution being to much involved.

Stevied thats a good book to Private Dancer I have read that also.

lizardo ....fantastic idea about the parents ...... i think that would give the best insight into the cultural view of it ......the acceptance or rejection ......would give a better insight into the older thai views as compared to the new generation

What is it about Thailand that makes people want to write a book??? Especially someone who has been to Thailand 2 or 3 times on holiday? As everyone has said there are way too many books on the topic. Write a book about dinosaurs or something interesting. Besides what you want to write you could do in a couple sentences. A poor girl has a child at a young age and unable to support it so they go to work in bar and send money to there family to help take care of the child. Then to show how complex they are you can ask her what she wanted to do with her life and she will say I wanted to be a teacher or a doctor but I couldn't afford to go to school.
