I am moving into a big apartment but it only has limited furniture...who knows good place to buy cheapish/2nd hand/ reasonable sofa, bed, chairs, outside furniture, tv, microwave, etc etc? I have looked on craigslist.com and baht and sold....anywhere else? 

A couple of days ago in the Bangkok Post classified, I saw an announcement by the US Embassy that it was going to be selling some of its furniture and appliances one day very soon. Maybe Saturday.

It said you have to go look at it and make a bid on what you want.

Yeah, I'm sure we can all come with some good jokes about it, but there might be some good stuff there.

you can have furniture made to specification, also. obviously, they can do fairly bland, generic stuff at home pro or home works and the price is reasonable. but up by JJ market are more options. there are places that do rather elaborate work and can use quality wood, including salvaged teak, and there is also a place that's a bit more khee nok, and will build to order using that two-tone softwood that the tables and chairs in many streetside restaurants are made of. i love this stuff and had them make some shelves, a table and endtables. all are fairly rough hewn and the wood may tend to warp a little, but i like the look of it when you slap a good coat of matte finish urethane on it. they are quite willing to build whatever odd stuff you design, in my experience, as long as the drawings are clear enough. do take a native thai speaker with you though.
