The Last Executioner: Memoirs of Thailand's Last Prison Executioner just finished reading this (strangely on prominent display in small East Glasgow library) and while not the best written book I have come across, it was thoroughly honest and eye opening. Has anyone else read it??

What's really weird/cool/disturbing -choose yourself- is that Thailand up until recently carried out the executions by a machine gun! Indoors!

Not sure which method they are using now

JTHM - injection. Of course if you want some other method that is maybe more dramatic then try Singapore, Malaysia or China where they do hanging, Saudi where they do public executions by sword (sorry women not allowed), Afghanistan by stoning, and the list goes on . . . .

A disturbing read - I have only seen excerpts, but that was quite enough for me.

When in Australia in April we went to the Old Dubbo Gaol and I saw the Hangmans nooses and other pretty horrific items. It left me feeling awful...

Yes in Singapore and Malaysia it;s hanging - but within the prison walls.

In Saudi they have their little spectacle in what the expats refer to as "chop-chop square" in Riyadh (probably other cities too). They love to round up the foreigners and make them stand in the front row to watch the beheadings etc and get splattered with blood! I am not kidding, I know people that have endured it...and were violently sick at the sight.

I really dont think lethal injection or any other method is in the least bit acceptable as a public spectacle, but I do agree that the death penalty is needed. If people know they will live on, then they have nothing to fear...

The book is interesting and one of a number in its 'genre' published by Maverick House.

The other closely related book is by Susan Dustin (Aldous) and called "The Angel of Bangkwang", an autobiography.

In the book, she details some of the work that she has been involved in as a care worker in Bangkwang prison (the "Bangkok Hilton" for those unaware) and our friend The Last Executioner above and Susan, became good friends!!!
