I was in queueing in the bank this morning, when at 11 am, all the workers stopped what they were doing, and everyone began observing a two minute silence in respect of those members of the armed forces that died in the war. Two indian looking guys were quite bemused and asked why everyone had stopped. Someone explained that it was Armistice day. For those that may not know, last Sunday was "Remembrance Sunday". That's when the two minutes silence is normally observed, but it seems to be done on both days now.

Funk, as mentioned before, Remembrance Sunday came into being in 1939 so that wartime production would not be affected by 2 minute silence and is now observed closest Sunday to the 11th, but Armistice Day is always the 11th itself though not all owrkplaces will observe the 2 minutes...

I dont know about in the UK,but as long as I can remember the services in Australia were always held on the 11th day of the 11th month, and with the silence at the 11th hour.

This was the 90th Anniversary of the end of the Great War - the War to End All Wars - or at least that was what they thought, and what they hoped...sadly...it was not to be...
