The Candles Festival is one of the biggest all over Thailand but Ubon Ratchatani is where the action is and the most important. This festival is held 3 days around the full moon in July. It marks the Buddha's first sermon and the beginning annual retreat period of the monks. And this is celebrated with parades of enormous wax sculptures. The following photos was taken on the full moon night of July 17, 2008 in the central park. There are about 30 huge wax sculptures and many smaller. They were bring from others towns nearby to Ubon by road on a tractor.n1412078229_13262_6163.jpg
