"¤¹ÀÙà ¡ç¨" I'm Phuketian )
"ËÃÃ¹Ô ÀÙà ¡ç¨" simply means Fun Phuket in Southern Dialect and "ÀÙà ¡ç¨" is how it is correctly spelt in Thai language as Phuket are usually and officially written as "ÀÙà ¡çµ" is not really a Thai word but Malay.
The name of Phuket (of which the ph sound is an aspirated p) is apparently derived from word bukit (Jawi) in Malay which means hill, as this is what hte island appears like from a distance. The region was formerly referred to as "Thalang," derived from the old Malay "Telong" (Jawi) which means "Cape." The norther district of the province, which was the location of the old capital, still uses this name.
