after 35 years, popular Rockney duo Chas and Dave have announced they are splitting.  While never pushing the boundaries of popular music, they were both accomplished musicians, and their playing has been sampled by Eminem, Jay Z, Wu Tang Clan and Foxy Brown among others. They were one of the ultimate beer bands; first time I saw them, around 18 years ago, I approached the evening with trepidation, but after a few beers, and then a couple more, I was down the front singing 'Gertcha' with the best of them... Despite coming across a a pub act, they opened for Led Zeppelin at Knebworth in  '79, while Chas's old band supported The Beatles on their last European tour. Here's some classic Chas and Dave, and some classic Two Ronnies being Chas and Dave!!  

I'm surprised to hear they're still alive

They used to own a pub close to my home and in the 80s you'd regularly see the cameras there recording a show. Like you say Iain, they never really pushed the envelope of popular music but they were an entertaining act all the same. Sorry to hear they're splitting up
