Road trip to Yorkshire Part I

The past weekend my personal driver, oops!, my boyfriend organized a trip for us to go to York. Since the trip was planned on the very last minute, we only got accommodation for one night at this wonderful Welburn Lodge. York was quite small from what we saw online. The main attractions that we were interested in are York Minster, The Shambles, York city wall and Castle Howard only. So we thought one full day should be enough. My bf looked up a few cities close to York, but he couldn't find much of an attraction to see, and it was a little bit too late to get another night accommodation near York, so we decided to go up for one night and one day only. It was around 2 hours and a half from here to the B&B that we booked through rain and 3 accidents. The owner of the B&B are very friendly and the room we had was very nice. It is also not too far from Thompsons, the recommended fish and chips eatery. We both ordered cod fish with chips and peas (really traditional, huh?) and the fish was fresh and tasted just as good as I remembered it to be 13 years ago, when I first visited the UK. The place was quite pricey but the food was good!We came back to the room and found some brochure of other cities in Yorkshire and decided to visit Scarborough and Whitby. But we didn't have the accommodation for Saturday night. >_< The next morning the owner of the B&B recommended a place and even made a call for us to ask if there's any vacancy. It's a B&B in the farm, which was not too bad, so we decided to leave our bag there before heading out to York city. The old quarter inside the city wall is lovely but it was packed with tourists. We love the old town and the old buildings especially York Minster. The decorations are very detailed and sculptures inside are amazing. The negative point was that the Minster was closed for special service and only opened after 2 pm. Also it was raining so everything was so dark and made it very difficult to enjoy every detail. Also the ticket to the Tower was sold out, so we didn't get to visit the highlight of the Minster. >_<So we went to walk on the city wall, walked around town, seeked The Shambles and went queue up at the famous Betty's Tea Room for lunch and Yorkshire cream tea. I've been seeking a place that serve cream tea and eventually found it in York, with clotted cream and tasty strawberry jam!We went back to the Minster again after the meal and stayed there for a while. The choir was rehearsing for another service in the evening and the sound of the choir resonated in the dimly lit Minster gave a mix of eerie feeling and sense of holiness in the air. We then walked to Delrio's Italian restaurant, which located underground. The food was ok... maybe because I was still full from the lunch and cream tea.We drove back to the B&B in the farm (Hall Farm) and went to bed early for another trip on Sunday. ^_^
