I dont mind them taking bribes, because: if I'd be in this position I think I'd take bribes too, all day long.

Unless they have a bullet-proof system to track each person individually in resident's registration offices and handle things more strictly it won't change anyway.

On my driving license I still have an address listed where I don't live anymore since 6 years and it went through 2 extensions already!

The way the Thai system is set up the Thai citizen has almost no recouse against the police.

The police are not held accountable to the local government for their actions.

The police in Thailand are untouchable like the mafia . It's up to Thai citizens to demand change of the status quo.

Compared to some other countries Thai cops usually come across with a surprisingly manageable "live and let live" manner. Can't complain so far.

I tried finding the article but it was something in the foreign press about a study some NGO had done about corruption in the Thai police. Basically the study concluded that the police force was unfixable. It said that not only were the police like the mafia, they are the mafia. They said that corruption was so much part of the system and so many police benefit from bribes, protection (tea) money, and getting a piece of the drug and gambling that the only way to get rid of the corruption would be to fire every police officer and start fresh with new police.

Like AYJeezy says, that's unfortunate because I've run into some good guys. It's unfair to them that they have to be lumped in with the bad ones.
