Chart music today...WTF!!
Yesterday I listened to a few chart tracks. It’s the first time Ive listened to the radio in about 2 years. But I noticed a couple of artists who I listened to a few years ago were there so I checked them out.
First off was Plan B, this guys older more underground albums were so well crafted, he put real thought into his lyrics and crafted the tracks in a way where he could tell a real story. He would sing to compliment the lyrics he rapping about. Track likes I Don’t Hate You, Couldn’t Get Along, Mama and Tough Love are amazing. Now, I listened to his new tracks and I gotta say what a waste of my mofo’ing time. He’s singing all the damn time to what sounds like big band beats. What a let down. Thoroughly disappointed.
Next up was Kelis. Her album Kaleidoscope I heard years ago produced entirely by The Neptunes had a very diverse/spacey sound to it. Wit her quirky vocals were refreshing to here. Now she has a track called acappella, typical generic beats and she has really lost her identity. Thoroughly disappointed.
But someone who I’ve followed for a long time on the underground, seen him freestyle live, won so many battles, heard all of his EPs is Professor Green. Watching his new video made me laugh, smile and make me feel like there still is a little glimmer of hope left for chart music.lol
