I've been seeing some of these clips from Thailand's Got Talent and while the performers may be talented, I think there's a big message that 99% of the clips I've seen are Thai songs being performed. I've watched many of the other ______'s Got Talent broadcasts from Bulgaria, Greece, etc and I've never seen such a focus on native language songs as there is in the Thailand's Got Talent competition. I don't think I've seen any clips of someone doing an international hit song.

@Bill. It can be that our Thailish accent will ruin the beauty of it and Thai music is a big business. (60 millions Thai listen to Thai music, but maybe approx 10% or less listen to those international hit songs).. anyway...here is an example.

@Nicky: I'm not a singer so I don't know but nearly every singer I have ever heard ends up dropping their accent if they're any good. I've seen more than a few very gifted Thai singers who can do American jazz and international pop very well. It can be done. The reason so many Thai acts that do covers of international tunes can't perform them well is because they want to be Thai singers but they do the international cover tunes gigs because they pay well. In other words, they never really commit to the songs. They just go through the motions.

And 60 million is a large audience but there are 6.6 billion people on the planet who don't speak Thai and don't listen to Thai oriented music. Beyonce has sold more records than there are people in Thailand.

I agree with that ,Thailand still can not jump into international entertainment business market because we need to fix all system. There is one country in asia like 'Korea" They have planed to explore their entertainment business esp song & music and they did because they planed for all the last 10-20 years, they might not compare with USA or UK but it's quite good for them.however the peoples in Thailand entertainment business still make good money more than another normal job same another country.I hope one day Thailand will successful with this.

Sorry Nicky, I didn't watch the video you posted before responding. She is definitely an example of someone who can sing. She might not even fully understand the words she's singing but she's committed to the song and there's no mixing up R's or L's because she focused on perfecting the song rather than walking her way through it.

And she's amazing. Her emotion, her energy, are fantastic.

However, just my experience, but I have heard few if any Thai songs that even approach that level of difficulty to perform. So right off the bat, as soon as someone gets up to do a Thai song in a competition like this they're already choosing an easier path.

I'm not saying that to put down Thai music but just look at the vocal range and the song difficulty between what simple_oriental posted and what you posted. It's night and day. Sure, she can switch back and forth between a male and female voice but that girl in your video just so nails it that even if you don't speak English you can feel the raw emotion.

And I do hope the girl you posted wins or goes deep into the competition but many people will advance just because they're singing Thai songs that are popular with no vocal range, no difficulty in song execution, etc.

I mean, look at Paul Potts from Britain's Got Talent. This aria from Puccini is in Italian which I'm sure most of the audience doesn't speak. Look at their reaction. It's just such a soul moving performance. That's what great music and great singing is about. It crosses all languages.

You really shouldn't win one of these competitions unless you give people goose bumps with the quality of the performance.

I watch Paul Potts From Uk as well. The interesting is he's a work at cell phone warehouse ,i am not sure but kind of,and he just did that like Simon said.

I watch this guy from Ukrain ,he sang classic song as Paul Pot also.I even don't know what's the song all about but i have my tears ,his vocal is so touch me,You believe that?

*** Admin *** i understand what you said about Thai music and thanks for your comment:)

I'm being 100% serious when I ask this but are Thai songs so limited range-wise because drawing out a word into a long note would change the meaning? I know Thai is a tonal language so I've always wondered if that might be the reason behind Thai songs not having the same emotional punch as songs in other languages.

Thai songs have emotional punch same another language ,the long not wouldn't change any meaning,They are lots of Thai singers they can show the emotional so well,But you might never saw once, unless if you could understand Thai language very well.

I try to think of thai song that has wide ranges of tone. But I just can't find any right now as I haven't listened to thai music for too long. Can anyone show that Admin can be wrong?

One thing I am sure : opera is not quite a musical style in Thailand. I don't think I ever could appreciate opera song. It feels like they are shouting, overreacting instead of singing.
