It's interesting but I think ultimately it's a waste of money. It seems to overly sappy. The guy holding the picture to his chest, come on.

And I think it sets up Thailand to completely fail as a tourist destination in terms of the people who come here because of it. I watched both the trailers and if you think you're coming here for the serenity and peacefulness in Bangkok you'll want to punch the people who made this in the face once the reality sets in. Where can an overseas tourist go that provides these moments of total serenity? You'll see this, call your travel agent, book a trip, and think everything was a total lie because you're booked into a hotel on Sukhumvit, in the middle of town in Chiang Mai, right in the heart of Patong in Phuket, etc, etc, etc.

I see this all of the time. I don't know how many times I've been down in Phuket and seen farang couples in Patong and the wife/gf is not happy one little bit. She was expecting what they showed in the ads and instead they're staying in the middle of a red light district.

Don't get me wrong, there are many beautiful parts of Thailand. But you need to get pretty far off the beaten tourist path to see any of that. If TAT wants to promote this image they need to actually deliver.

@Bill - Yes it's always too beautiful and too good if compares with the real situation in Thailand now. To find out as similar to the promote clip, we must go to the unknown destination. For example, try Ranong or Trang province not Phuket. Try Nan or Lamphoon not Chiang Mai. For Bangkok, try to go there for the long holiday and you'll find the difference haha.

Anyway, I found out that it's me a Thai people who wanna go to visit the place in this clip. There are many places in my country I've never visited ^^.

Hi Sasie,

That was my point. You live here. I live here. We might actually be able to find those places. But if this is intended to promote tourism (it was a TAT promotion) then it might set people's expectations too high and when Thailand doesn't deliver people will have a bad taste in their mouth.

I prefer if you see all of story then you will see a lot of place in it.

and I still said thailand is beautiful I been to a lot of place that don't have much tourism and still nature and I'm sure if both of you see you will love it too.

another past of it

@beergirl - Thanks for sharing na ka. However, for Sukhothai I'd lived there before for 2 years and it was crazy crowded during Loy Krathong festival. Normally this province is very tranquilly except that great festival. TAT has been promoting it for a long time without well organization. Many places you can find that local people avoid to go there during the festival. This can destroy the real charming of our places day by day. For Ayutthaya, if possible please visit here at weekday not weekend.

@Sasie , I agree with you about that ka . I have been to a lot of place like that in my province too but not impress me much. Most friends like to ask why i like to go to the place that people not go and my answer is I like to see they live in real ka

I'm always told them to avoid the festival too.I'm the one who alway stay home in holiday ka if I can ^^

i've seen a lot of country advertisement and actually they always look better than the reality. surely this is their aim. TAT is pushing domestic tourism, but i think the international tourists are still coming despite any thai local or country issue :) and i've seen a lot of them.

specifically this advertisement shows a single farang man getting easily in touch with a single thai girl.

it's more a love story than a destination promotion. any movie tells you a story, gives you sensation, this is what i got

@David - Wow first time to comment at my blog (other was my thread of beautiful pic of Bangkok). Ha you can see it's a love story promotion? Hahaha it's very romantic mak mak ^^

@Sweetie - พี่ก็ว่างั้นนะ มันทำให้คนไทยดูแล้วอยากไปเที่ยวเนอะ อิๆๆ

@David: I don't think the girl is Thai. If you watch the 7-part version (see beergirls' blog) it's obvious she's a Japanese tourist.

So if the film was meant to promote domestic tourism why would they feature a farang and a Japanese girl meeting in Thailand?

That's another one of the reasons why I feel it was a waste of money. It has no real audience. Who is it aimed at? Farangs? Japanese? Thais? Where is the whole marketing message in this? So far it looks like they've uploaded it to Youtube under the name of "THE MOST AMAZING SHOW ON EARTH!" It's even being promoted on a special TAT URL:

http://www.mostamazingshow.com

That's not to say that it's not an interesting story. That's not to say that it wasn't put together well. All I'm saying is that, for me, it seems like a fail in terms of promoting Thailand as a tourist destination.

@Sasie: I'm probably not going to make any friends saying this but, IMHO, Thais have a habit of latching onto things just because they involve Thailand or Thai people. So what I'm saying here is that remove Thailand as the location of this movie and would you still think it was such an amazing movie? What if they were in Laos? Vietnam? Bali? Malaysia? The Philippines? Indonesia? India?

Would so many Thai people be commenting on YouTube? My guess is less than 10% of the people who have watched it would have watched a non-Thailand seven part movie. Even fewer would have commented or bothered to share it with friends.

So, that is my perspective when making my observations about the film. I love Thailand but I love many other countries and people. So I'm simply looking at the film as a short-film.

@Admin - Bill I'm glad you're seriously concern about the misleading TAT promoting Ad. Your opinion is very sharp and I can see what you wanna tell us - Thai people. However, as you know everyone always has bias and easily to be like that. We as Thai people tend to find the very positive side of anything. So as long as I shared and I found other shared this link in FB, most Thai people left a comment in a very positive way.

@Sasie, All I'm saying is tell me you would enjoy this film even 50% of what you do now if it was in Malaysia rather than Thailand.

I've always said Thais and farangs will always have a hard time seeing things the same way because for us Thailand is just one experience. For many (i.e. most) Thais it is their only experience.

For me, this film was nice but not anywhere even close to being the greatest show on earth. The fact that it's being promoted as such demonstrates a disconnect with how other people view the world.

well..i've a subscription at TAT news and offers, they always come in thai language.

the last tourism trade mart TTF2011 had a targeting towards domestic market:

....One of the key goals of TTF 2011 is to promote domestic tourism to meet the TAT’s target of 91 million trips and revenue of 432 billion baht this year...

despite that, i'm thinking of a thai movie which i didn't watch :) , maybe i'm wrong but was like pai in love??

PAI got such popular interest since then....

100% agree it's not focusing in a real promotion, but just a nice video

@Admin - Hahaha I understand what you told here. True that this clip isn't the greatest show on earth and I think the heading of the promotion Ads doesn't match the real thing which happens. May be this clip is impressive in Thais eyes because it's Thailand and some of the places in the clip we had experienced before.

Ok even your opinion is a serious side, I'm happy you share it here. By the way, you can call me 'Tai' as I'm a rabbit.
