And Austria. Hiking boots good idea if you plan on doing a fair bit of trekking. Remember t shirts are pretty cheap in Th so could get some there. Bring 'smart' stuff if you plan on going clubbing somewhere like Bed or good restaurants. Long trousers good idea for visiting temples too,

You can buy t shirts and shorts, flip flops everywhere in Thailand , Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. Don't forget that part of the world is "copy central".

The only thing I would suggest that you bring from the west is a fleece or warm jumper if you are going north. It was cold when I was in Luang Praban, and I couldn't find any decent warm clothes there. If you are just hitting the beaches, then don't bother.

Obviously, if you are going hiking, then you will need more than flip flops.

If you want to visit sky bars in Bkk, they do not allow men to wear open shoes, might that be slippers or sandals. Funny enough, ordinary jogging shoes will do.

And Austria.

Speedos are prohibited by law in Austria and punishable by labour camp or - even worse - listening to Scottish Folk music for not less than six hours!

Scottish folk music is some of the best in the world. And is certainly more popular than anything (has anything?) that has come out of Boringsville, Osterreich.

@ryan: See? This is what happens to you once you are sentenced to this really cruel punishment! So be careful with speedos in Austria!

and many Austrians (especially those with surname Fritzl) drop the first 's' in 'speedos'

You also can take a light-blue string tanga, pink toutous, a bustier of your favourite color and high-heels.

But although Bangkok is an open city concerning fashion I would not recommend you going places in this outfit... ;)

You forgot that old Austrian favourite; jackboots! ;)

Now it's my turn to yawn...

But right, we "do pee" on these clichees!

Once again: Maybe the idea came from a corner in my country, but the outfit was designed in Prussia!

funnily enough, or not, they actually originated with the English. (irony?)

Nope...just the sad truth!

On the other hand - having had a personal union between UK and a German state for more than 100 years might now explain the German fetishism for jackboots ....

Maybe...

if you can explain the difference between English and Scottish to me... :P:lol:

The English are descended from Germanic and Danish tribes, with a sprinkling of Norman and a dash of Norse.

The Scots are of Irish origin with a dash of Norse and several sprinklings of Gael.

So very distinct and separate origins.

Oh and they are bastards

Isn't anyone on the islands???

Originally in Scotland were the Gaels and the Picts. The the Scotti came over from Ireland. Picts pretty much wiped out. Gales pushed out to the islands. Exception is far north islands (Shetland/Orkneys) where origins lie more in Scandinavia (esp Norway)
