While he may not be the best President we have ever had, George Bush announced yesterday that the United States Government is initially committing 15 million dollars to the Southeast Asia tsunami relief efforts with more money to follow.

The United States Air Force currently has a convoy of large cargo planes filled with supplies and search and rescue planes on the way to Thailand. The United Stated Navy has a fleet of rescue and hospital ships on the way to the Indian Ocean as well.

In my immediate area, the Maryland State Police Search and Rescue Team has mobilized and is preparing to depart for Thailand to assist in the recovery efforts.

But more importantly, the contributions of individual citizens is expected to add to (by more than double) the amount already pledged by the US Government. I also recommend that all Americans (and members of any other nation as well) contact their local political leaders and charitable organizations to urge them to help even more.

Thanks alot man! I wrote to the Thai embassy to ask where i can send something to help...no reply yet! Anisa also told me that in Thailand they announced to give to the Red cross chapter in Thailand, I think that's what i'll do...hope it helps a little. What an awful event for those poor ppl.

I know here some planes left today with clothes, blankets, tents and medical equipment. But I think they were send to Sumatra and Sri Lanka. I'm not sure about other countries. Maybe there was some agreement with other European countries to send also things to Thailand. I've also heard that some say that the number of victims will double due to epidemics like dysentery.

I know also the European Union will send more money, they decided already to send ? 3.000.000. While other countries like France, UK, Germany, Belgium, ....... send already money.
