Cambodia

I am writing this entry from a rustic internet cafe in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. So, who has been to Cambodia? I understand that being called Cambodian is an insult to some people in Thailand. It is true that Cambodians in general are less well off than most Thais, but the people here are very friendly and charming. I have been in Cambodia since last Tuesday and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here. I am also getting my fair share of live kick boxing. A ticket to live Khmer Boxing (same same as Thai Boxing) is only $0.50 USD in Phnom Penh! I am going to watch Khmer Boxing for three nights in a row. Anyway, for those who have been considering a trip to Cambodia, do not hesitate, you will not regret it!

I'll be back in BKK on April 12 and I want to join some people for Songkran festivities. Who's interested?

Well... a friend of mine, just got back today and was shocked!!! .... Cambodia - eventhou it's a neighbour to Our wonderfull Kingdom here - is a very pittifull and veryyy pooorrr country. He was sneaked around quite a few times, felt unsecure most of the time, and could not wait to get back to the security and peacefull existence that Thailand offers. I asked him: "So is it a place where I could go and visit with my $4000 dollar apple mac and feel secure in a hotell, trust everyone that it will still be there once I finish my ham and eggs"? .... He said: "NNNNNOOOOOO, don't do that!!!" "you will never see that piece of fruit ever again" .... So after that comment I drew my conclusion ... Cambodia seems very nice, people are friendly, blah, blah, blah ... however it is good for a week with no gold chains or rolexes on your wrists.!!! ... As far as I am concerned - I'

m sticking right here - irrelevent to what's happening at the "Angkor Wat"! .... :)

Haven't been there. It might not be the safest place on earth but one thing about a not so develop country is the people's unbelievable kindness. Sometimes poor people look dangerous but in many cases, I believe they can be trusted more than many rich people.

Enjoy the rest of ur time there, Fee. Hope to see you when you are back to this land of smiles! ^_^

It's true Cambodia, particularly Phnom Penh, does have a crime problem. But one TF member had his laptop stolen in the Starbucks in Emporium. It can happen anywhere. You have to be careful, particularly when traveling in a strange, new place.

But if you have a chance to go to Cambodia, take it. It's a fascinating country, for both the good and the bad that is and was there.

Have a great time, Flinca. And be sure to hang out and have a meal at the Foreign Correspondents Club in Phnom Penh. It's open to all and is one of the coolest place in Cambodia, and perhaps the whole region.
