PeeMarc
We know there are 1000's of tailor shops clustered around, mainly in tourist areas, in Bkk. It's stand to reason, out of all of them, there must be a few very good ones. If you wanted to get some nicely made shirts or jacket etc, what tailor would you recommend? Had any experiences? 0 Mikee_Moose
Specifically for sewing shirts, I recommend Milan Suit, near Asoke BTS. His work is the best I've seen and he doesn't mind working with fabric brought in from outside. Milan on Soi 49 is very good (opposite Villa). He used to be on Sukhumvit near soi 47. Away from all the tourist traps and the guy is a professional Chinese tailor with very good materials. Prices are higher than the Indian shops but the quality is also much better. My first suit I bought from him in 1990 and it lasted forever (still in good condition but alas, way too small now). I am also told of a place called Embassy Tailors which is run by an Englishman. Also supposedly very good and also a bit pricey. I just prefer not to go to the Indian tailors. Never sure what you are going to get.
0 zeusbheld
never tried milan but heard good things. downside i hear he has an aversion to shanking buttons, so the buttons can be a pain to fasten, and that his selection of shirting is quite limited. his buttons are supposed to be nothing special but according to a 3-year-old post on a forum there's a button shop around the corner. heard good things about Narin also. July in Silom area gets good reviews in various online forum posters. one person suggested to me that there is an excellent tailor shop inside the US Embassy, but this sounds like a mythical beast... i may try having pants and maybe a few shirts made in the next couple of months. will try to remember to post my impressions if i do...
