that she was underage is not disputed.

but i seem to recall she was reportedly sexually experienced, that she consented to the sex, that her mother told Polanski that the foto shoot was ok and that the girl would do nude shots and a lot more, that the mother knew she was alone with him late into the night and that they immediately blackmailed him afterwards do seem to raise some extenuating circumstances. I would not be so quick to string the guy up and it has nothing to do with his art.

have u read her testimony ??

are you kidding?

I can barely make it a full page in a forum

The Polanski case was a set-up for extortion if i ever saw one. Similar to the Michael Jackson cases.

Another legalistic point: Isn't there a statute of limitations in the oh so free and just US of A? In my country it is 25 years, except for murder.

As to the statute of limitations; I may be wrong, but does that not only apply to the trying of a case? With Polanski, he had pleaded guilty and was awaiting sentencing when he absconded, therefore there is no statute as he is convicted.

As a general rule, statute of limitations applies to the period in which a person can be charged for an offence. Clearly, it does not apply here. Also, quite rightly for serious offences such murder, rape or torture - as a general principal in common law countries - there is no statute of limitations.

cheers mate. though that was the case but wanted to be sure. My legalese only extends to drug testing requirements, bail restrictions and treatment provision orders...(and they are all confusing enough)

Whoopi Goldberg claims Manson not guilty of ?murder-murder?

Following her claims that film director Roman Polanski is not guilty of ?rape-rape?, .

Official State of California statistics show that saome 30% of high school studens have had sexual expiriences of some kind before age 12!

In Thailand there is no official minimum age limit, BTW.

You dirty old man, most of your dribble is best ignored but these two points require a response in case you mislead other idiots.

Firstly, what you have written is not only patently untrue! There is a minimum age of consent in Thailand - from memory it is 15 but I will check to confirm. If there was no minimum age of consent in Thailand you idiot why would men be charged with having sex with children?

Secondly, if you going to assert dubious official statistics regarding the sexual experiences of high school children you need to put it in some context. Children experiment with other children their age and that is ok, natural and normal. What is not ok is adults having sex with under age children. And the term sexual experiences is very wide ranging, it includes kissing.

You may wish to reread your posts check some of you assertions. But perhaps more importantly there is a need for a morality check.

As beejrightly pointed out - the profile screams 'stranger danger"

"Do you want our good and free education and health care for your child(ren)? Come visit at my condo in Bonn and see what develops. -- Seeking only clean living (no smoke, no alcohol, no drugs), educated lady with small kid(s) to adopt"

skin crawling material!

thanks for sharing the NYC times link Lake -- I agree polanski shoulda faced the music a long time ago..and like beej said the newly released court info doesn't even state that he paid the $500,000 settlement. Polanski also was linked to have a relationship with Natasha Kinski when she was 15.

p.s. I hope TF doesn't have any Dalai Lama fans on here -- his holiness is similiar to the pope ya know -- i'm not so sure they would like his name used in such a context...but irronically the Dalai Lama is a fugitive from his own country he fled to India from the Chinese. His only serious crime was being born....It is against the law to be himself... maybe that is what you meant. :?

Dalai Lama Nobel peace prize acceptance speech.

Well yours truely is a big DL fan, I have seen him speak twice in my life in the 90s and my mother met him earlier this year. I have the deepest respect for him. I used his name in this context to illustrate the extreme example that no matter how wonderful you are if you commit such a crime as Polanski did you should face the music. (using the Pope as an example would have been pointless given the conduct of many catholic priests)

But your point is a valid one and thus I sincerely apologise to anyone who considers it was inappropriate to use the name of his Holiness in this context. More so given there are many Buddhists on TF, (but perhaps not too many followers of Tibetan Buddhism?).

yeah no worries, I thought it would be ok but then again the DL is the living incarnation of Buddha for Tibetan Buddhists so maybe not the best person to use as an example.

I saw Kundun when it came out and I still have a look at it every now and then. Such a juxstaposition compared to most of his work. When I view it again my response tends to be a mixture of sorrow, tears & reflective anger at the fact that the international community has just ignored the struggle in Tibet. I would have given my life savings for one person to have briefly raised the Tibetan flag at the 2008 Olympics opening/closing cermony.

Did you know most of Kundun was shot in Morocco?

no I didn't know most of it was shot in Morocco -- but ya know if someone would have done that it would have been sheer bravery -- they would have most likely been put in jail and the key probably thrown away..I wouldn't dare mess with a country that has such an extreme amount of executions. and the touring US human body exhibit -- If i'm not mistaken it is strong speculation that some of the displays are that of chinese prisioners used in the production of the displays..
