So in Roman characters, ä» ä˹ ÃÃ’ is "pai nhai ma." I think this is from Fay's lessons.

ä» is written in reverse since ä» = pai, but ä = ai AND » = p

ä˹ is written in reverse since ä˹ = nhai, but ä = ai AND ˹ = nh

But ÃÃ’ is written forward meaning first sound is written first. ÃÃ’ = ma AND Ã = m AND Ã’ = a.

How do you know when the first sound is at end like pai or nhai and when first sound is written at beginning like ma?

Does anybody understand ???

i may be wrong but certain vowels always go b4 the constenent.

ä and â

you just have to remember which ones. some go above " Ô" & " ×" & " í" some go below " Ø".

the hard part for me is when there is no vowel. like here: ö

how do you know that it reads ROT and not RAT

and another ¶¹¹

how do you know that its thAnOn and not thOnAn?

ö¹µì

why is dor dek in the end and its not pronounced?

Due to the presence of Mai Thanthakhat (the small symbol over dor dek) that is used to silence the consonant(s) on which is placed

^and àªÕ§ãËÃè

why is it HMAI ???

The presence of ho hip is mostly used to determinate the tone of a syllable or differentate the one with a similar tone (when written) and is not pronounced

oh, and to the opening question the reason exposed by digitalcat is correct.

In thai some vowels are written before the "leading" consonant, others are written over or under it and others after... and there are dittongs that sourrounds it... it's only a matter of practice.

Learn the alphabet, the 32 vowels and dittongs combinations and get used to identify them... it take some time, so keep trying
