Riding in Bangkok!!!

PiAnt

Question

I'm sure some of you know that I have this:

07022008102.jpg

But, I almost exclusively use one of these:

Yamaha+Mio+ZR+new+scooter+high+price.png

(Exactly like this one. Reg A Quarter to 7 if you see me let on.)

To get to work and back and around the city. To be honest, it makes getting about a breeze. Running and maintenance costs are pennies and a small fraction of what a big bike costs.

Apart from the near death experiences, I love riding around Bangkok.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RL0sbnySX4 (Watch if you're only really bored.)

Anyone else riding around Bangkok?

Anecdotes?

K peeps...been doing a lot of browsing online and finding a lot of what I want, but I need a little help finding some of these places. Like, is this place and actual brick 'n mortar store or is it just a website??

http://www.mocyc.com/index.php

And can anyone tell me exactly where this place is...

http://www.59bike.com/index.php

Having a hell of a time finding it on a map.

Thanks for any help.

:bounce: :rotate: :bomb:

the 1st is more like motorcycle online community where you can post and sell stuff, from what i see but i am no expert. yet, there is a flag on top right which mean you can switch to english version.

the 2nd is located on Sutthisarn road and there is contact info at the bottom ==>Tel : 02-275-5338 Fax : 02-275-5078 Mobile : 084-925-5959

E-Mail : fiftyninebikexxxxyahoo.com

hope this help.

Thanks Karnie.

I tried the english version on the first one...not so good with some of the translations. As for 59...I already emailed them. We'll see if they write back.

Mocyc.com has a shop, at least some pictures indicate a real shop with bike gear. No bikes though in that shop, I think. Never been there, don't know where it is.

Go to the bottom of this page: http://www.mocyc.com/store/view.php?idclassified=182614

Have a Thai read where it's at, or call the number you find in the text on the bottom.

As for 59bike, hold your wallet tight, cos this guy has high prices on all his stuff. Bikes even more expensive than at Redbaron. I know where this shop is, but can't explain haha... I think on Kaset Nawamin rd. He has no map at the webpage no?

G-luck.

Thanks for the heads up about 59 and all the other info. What's the story with Redbarron? Can you recommend any dealers for BB's???

Thanks again, Tom

Redbaron has been around for ages with BB's, good shop with very good after sale service, however as mentioned they are pricey. All bikes there are reg'd.

I can't really recommend a shop in BKK, as I was cheated at both shops I have bought bikes from, they are not around anymore.

If I'd buy a bike today, I'd probably get a cheap and new unregistered from Mocyc, with all paperworks to register it, OR, talk to the Thai guys in my club on who is importing bikes from Japan now, and get one from there.

Shops are just too expensive, if you ask me.

Mate, what bike is it you're after exactly? There are hundreds of shops selling Suzuki scooters everywhere.

Or have you seen something else you like? Can you tell us and we can all look out for you?

There's a DR Bike link on mocyc.com but they generally list only the accessories they stock.

They do Harleys and Phantoms etc some sports bikes, occasional CB400 etc, parts and accesories; they had a very tasty blade outside recently 2003 I think 300,000 registered. They generally don't have a lot of bikes though (as they have had in the past) but are always snowed under with servicing. I bought 2 bikes from him and have my 'Bird serviced there. They're pretty good. If you go talk to Mr Yo the owner who's ok. Broken English.

Good stuff, Tom. Thanks. I'd like to take up on talking to the guys that are importing. My only concern is time...

I am having really bad luck so far.

I found 2 really nice rides I wanted...but they were both sold shortly before I contacted the sellers.

Damn the bad luck!

Ant,

Actually I originally wanted a new GSXR-750 as I have owned several in the past and I love the bike, but was having a hard time finding one so I thought I would just get a scooter in the mean time...but **** that...I want a GSXR-750 or 1000. then I ran across this today....

http://www.mocyc.com/store/view.php?idclassified=313810

...and fell in love. It was just posted today, but when i called it had just sold 15 minutes ago.

So back to looking for a suitable GSXR.

Thanks man...appreciate everyone's help. getting a little frustrated cuz i have been at this hard for a few days now.

I know a big Suzuki dealer (big bikes not shop) on Ramintra km6ish who has some very tasty newish bikes 'Busa's Bimotas etc but not exactly cheap and I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them. (When they show me 4 empty spark plug boxes and charge me 2200 for them I expect to see 4 matching spark plugs next time I change them - par for the course.) Never bought from them though.

I pass a small place on Lat Prao 80 every morning he's got a clean CB400 (120ish?) and a resprayed R1 sitting outside (probably 150,000 I would guess). He had a nice cb1300 recently at 180,000.

I pass some other smallish places which have various bigish bikes sitting outside too; with a better idea of what you're after I could ask around.

Just thinking. If you're planning on using something a lot, you don't really want to rush in too quick. If you're not sorted in time have you asked EB if you could borrow one of his on the day?

If you're waving serious wedge look at RED BARON or that other one YC mentioned.

They've got a very tasty 2009 GSXR1000 at 768,000; '08 CBR600 at 460,000 and they generally have a pretty good range in most of the time.

Number on the page mate. The manager is a Jap who speaks great English. They can order parts generally within 3 weeks. Bonus is if you buy there they service and they've got all the gear to do it.

I am gonna stick to finding a newish GSXR 750/1000. Not into the Busa.

Or if another sweet Duc 1098 comes around...I'll jump on that.

Red Barron has a (new) '09 GSXR-1000...it's only 760K...bastards. but i am tempted cuz it's still wrapped in plastic :D

Agree! Earlier is better. So stay in on Saturday, people! Don't be hungover on sunday!

Sorry guys I set it at 11 cos EB's mate reckoned about an hour or so to get there. Karnie will also have to come to my house first too.

No probs though, I'll make it 10.

I've passed this place many time, it's in Chok Chai 4! :-) Mates at the club said I should avoid it for repairs; very pricey.

My bike-importer-friend was running the "YES Car Care" further up the soi before.

Actually he's Thai. Khun Vikrom. I always go to him when I need some small stock parts for the bike, he orders it in no-time and very good price too.

I'd say 350-390k would be a fair price, I wouldn't pay over 400k if it's not loaded with extras and is very low mileage.

But, thats just me buying from private sellers. Expect over 400k at RB if it's for sale there.

I've sent a few bike buyers to Red Baron before. I should remind K.Vikrom about that.

Just make sure you get a legal green book, and that the registration is ok.
