CiaranM
noooo, its quite a nice place. big bar area. seperate food area. about 10 pool tables (sorry, i didn't count them). just like a normal hotel bar anywhere else. Thanks Johno !! I lived t a small local Hotel for most of my 20s so I am easy to please. I actually prefer them when they are empty with only a few barmaids or waitresses around hehe. only like em full of people when I'm playing there eh sorry ... but gullivers in soi 5 has probably more hookers than the one in KSR. mind u most of them play a pretty mean game of pool ... lots of practice with balls and cue sticks i guess !!

basbkk
I have yet to visit KSR because of the things that I have heard about the place. Like johnno said: Try the Gullivers on Soi 5. It is a good place for lunch and sometimes dinner if you can deal with a large crowd. The only problem I have is that I notice my service is not as good if I am with my Thai girlfriend. When I am alone they are very attentive. i like going to Gullivers at soi 5 in the afternoon for late lunch or fantastic fruit shakes but i have to say the service is the worst!!! doesn't matter if you come there with thai gf, alone or a bunch of white guys.....service is just very slow and bad. it's not incidental, it is like that over and over. if the menu wasn't that good i really stopped going there long time ago. thaibel
the first time I went to Thailand and KSR was at 1990, I think at least. The street was definitly a place were backpackers could change experience about travelling through SE-Asia. I was self a backpacker that time and used BKK to visit Thailand and to hop to other interesting places in all of SE-Asia. KSR was a nice street with lot of stalls to buy clothes, souvenirs, kitshy things ...... whatever. There were a few bars and restaurnt. The open kind of places, mostly run by Thai ppl. U had a lot of guest houses going from 50 bath up to 500 bath. I always stayed in New Siam Guest House behind the temple at the end of KSR. Basic but clean place. I said already that I was a backpacker at that time (but I didn't smell and look didn't look like a X-mass tree  ). The main reason for all people there was travelling and meeting ppl. I never saw any hooker or Kathoey there. There were no nightclubs. What I've heard from here it changed. My last visit was about 1995 and I saw they were realy building new places and there were already a few 'western style' pubs. Now it seems to be a place to visit for drinking, clubbing, picking up girls .......... Maybe I should go and look next time I'm in Thailand.
