You can also pick up a few netowrks, one of which is free, in the area near the cinema ticket office on the 5th floor of Siam Paragon. Bangkok free wi-fi spots The World Trade Centre The World Trade Centre is closed at present for renovations! Mammoth Shopping Centre on Rajadamri Road, diagonally opposite Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel. On the 6th floor of the World Trade Centre is TK Park, which I believe stands for Thai Knowledge Park. This is a project run by the government to provide reasonably priced internet access to the Thai public. I'm not sure if this hot spot is supposed to be open or not, but free internet is available there - just look in any store where they sell laptops and you'll see the staff connected and surfing away. I guess that's why service in some of these stores is so poor! I have found the signal there to be strong and the speeds VERY fast. The best signal will be had on floors 5 or 6, but even on the ground floor you can sometimes capture the signal! Bourbon Street Bar And Restaurant In Washington Square which is on Sukhumvit Road Soi 22. Wi-fi is available in this very pleasant American bar and grill venue. Larry's Dive Sukhumvit Road Soi 22, about 200 metres up into the soi. Larry's Dive is located on Sukhumvit Soi 22 and is another spot where wi-fi is provided completely free to customers. The Londoner Corner Sukhumvit Road and Sukhumvit Road Soi 33. This popular British style pub has free wi-fi. You have to ask the staff for the password details. They clearly advertise this at the entrance but again, I have yet to try it myself. The Irish Xchange Soi Convent, just past Starbucks. In the old days this very popular Irish pub with great food used to charge for wi-fi but now it is totally free - and it is a very fast, stable connection. It's a nice spot, with very good food and always a good selection of local and international newspapers. They have a very good menu and an excellent buffet lunch most days. Ronny's New York Pizza Sukhumvit Soi 4. Located on the infamous Sukhumvit soi 4, that is soi Nana, opposite the Brunswick, the free wi-fi is available for customers from midday until 2 AM. Tamarind Cafe Sukhumvit Soi 20. Located about 250 metres from Sukhumvit Road, this pleasant spot has an art gallery and great vegetarian food. It opens at 3 PM during the week and 10 AM at the weekend. Omni Tower Serviced Apartments Sukhumvit Soi 4. Free wi-fi is offered in the lobby area. Coffee Society Silom Road, near Sala Daeng BTS. Another cafe to add to what will soon no doubt be a very long list of cafes and coffee shops with wi-fi. This area is predominantly gay, so it is largely home to a mixed Thai, heterosexual and farang crowd. wi-fi is free and fairly fast, coffee is good, they also have reasonable 'Western' style food and deserts. Best of all, it is open 24 hours. Mediterraneo Restaurant Somerset Building, Soi Tonson, just off Ploenchit Road. Free wi-fi is offered in what used to be the sister restaurant of Bourbon Street. Hazarindo Sukhumvit Soi 38. A restaurant with free wi-fi access. Telephone Pub Silom Soi 4. Be aware that most of the venues in Silom soi 4 cater to gays and alternative lifestyle folks so if that is not your thing, you might want to go to one of the other establishment with a free wi-fi hot spot in the immediate area. Still, this soi can be a bit of a laugh if you're open-minded and don't have any hang ups. Hu'u Bar And Restaurant The Ascot, Sathorn Road. A nice, somewhat upmarket venue. Mrs. Stick swears the food there is great but to be honest, I have only been to the establishment on the ground floor and not Hu'u, which is up a few floors. Sukhumvit 1 Plaza Sukhumvit Soi 1, funnily enough... The newest farang bar area in Bangkok is the first to get wi-fi. The hot spot was originally available to users in Revolution Bar but I believe it is now open for all punters who venture there. Any questions, pop in and see the staff in Revolution Bar and they'll help you. WearEver Laundromat & Lounge Between Samsen Road Sois 1 and 3. Located just over the bridge north of Khao San Road, wi-fi is free for customers using their coin-operated washers and dryer or for those just dropping in for a drink. Sin Sukhumvit Soi 4. The new disco / restaurant / nightclub on Sukhumvit's busy soi 4 has free wi-fi available. Signal strength has been described as so but should improve when they change the position of the router. There are quite a few places in Sukhumvit Soi 4 with free wi-fi access now. Jessie's Minimart Petchaburi Soi 43/1. Inside Soi 43/1 on Petchaburi Road (between Asoke / Petchaburi intersection and Makkasan / Petchaburi intersection) in a village called Miami Villa. This store is a mini-mart and an internet cafe open 24 hours per day. Owned and managed by a Canadian and his Thai wife. Tables outside the store or inside the store and a large area of the village is covered by a wireless network (speed 512/256 ADSL). Landmark Hotel Near Nana skytrain station. Free wi-fi access operates in the lobby area and is available on that small patio outside where one could have a cup of coffee or tea and check email and surf the net. There is also free wi-fi available in the business centre on the 27th floor, which has a good view looking out over the city. Tarntawan Place Hotel Suriwong Road. Located opposite the Tawana Ramada Hotel, you can enjoy a cool drink in their lobby or lunch in their restaurant and surf until your heart's content. Conrad Hotel Wireless Road. Free wi-fi is offered in the lobby are and in the lobby bar. McBen Coffee Shop Sukhumvit Soi 8. Free wi-fi in this coffee house, as there should be in every coffee house! Serves excellent coffee, also food and other drinks (including beer at 60 baht). There is a separate air-con smoking lounge for smokers. The broadband speed is 1mbs. Robin Hood Sukhumvit Road, near Soi 33/1 Free wi-fi access is provided. There were some difficulties accessing it in the past but they have been remedied and now it is as good as gold. Siam Smile Bar Sukhumvit Soi 7/1 Siam Smile Bar is the first in this fast growing alley of interesting bars. How you could manage to surf the internet successfully with so many lovelies there defies me! Big John's World Soi Thonglor Soi 9 This popular spot that has good, affordable Western food offers free wi-fi access to all - for 10 minutes....hmm, what is that all about?! Las Cachos Between Thonglor sois 14 & 16 The signal and speed has been described as ok. Old German Beerhouse halfway down Sukhumvit Soi 11 It is free for customers and the key is: ccccccccaf. Outside Amari Boulevard SSID: LB01 Sukhumvit Soi 5 Possibly from the lobby? The signal and speed has been described as low. Absolute7 Bar Sukhumvit Soi 7/1 Free wi-fi is offered and there are a lot of pleasant staff in the bar too! Boss Apparels & Minimart Rama 1 Road, right next to National Stadium BTS station My favourite tailor store in all of Bangkok, which also has a mini-mart and a small internet cafe, now has free wi-fi access available too. This tailor's store is located about 50 metres along from Soi Kasemsan 1, the soi opposite Mahboonkrong with a number of decent budget hotels and guesthouses. Cathouse Nana Plaza, Sukhumvit Soi 4 I have been told that you can access a free wi-fi connection from the Cathouse bar in Nana Plaza although where it is being broadcast from, I do not know - probably a hotel nearby. Nai Lert Park Hotel Wireless Road They have free wi-fi in the lobby, at the restaurant, the bar and the pool which means that the rooms facing the garden can get a signal, albeit weak, as well. Assumption University / ABAC Hua Mark Hua Mark Strong signal and free for everyone, not just students. Siam Smile Bar Sukhumvit Soi 7/1 The second bar in this interesting soi to offer free wi-fi. I imagine it would be a great place to use your laptop and check your email in the afternoon. Grand Westin Hotel Corner Sukhumvit Road and Sukhumvit Soi 19 I believe the lobby area has free wi-fi access as well as some other points. The Barbican Soi Thaniya This free wi-fi connection is not offered by The Barbican per se, but there is a signal obtainable if you are in there. It usually gets turned off around 7:00 - 7:30 PM, suggesting it comes from an office building in the area. Business Inn Sukhumvit Soi 11 About 30 metres into the soi, they have free wi-fi though the female night manager is known for hassling people who are not hotel customers, but are using it! Sheraton Orchid Hotel By the Chao Praya River In the lobby and first floor of this impressive riverside hotel. It's a great place for coffee and life music at night though as you would expect with a hotel of this calibre, they're expensive - but the atmosphere makes up for that. They have a fast connection and a lot of Apple laptoppers frequent the place. Nailert Park Hotel Wireless Road There are at least two free connections in the area, but each has been described as somewhat low in strength. Breeze Beer Garden Chaengwattana Soi 26 Draught Kloster, Asahi, Heineken and Chang. Great Thai food, pool, darts, UBC. More here. Evergreen Laurel Hotel Corner of Sathorn Road and Soi Pipat. Free wi-fi is available in the lobby. Coffee World / New York Deli Near Silom Soi 4 A sign on the door confirms free wi-fi is offered on the premises. The Moment Cafe Charoen Krung Soi 50 Opposite Robinsons in Bangrak, they have a website Momentcafe. The place is nice - coffee is good - and it's quiet. It only opened few months ago so it is still not that busy. The wi-fi connection is said to be fast. Kiwi Cafe Sukhumvit Soi 22 Open from 8 AM until 2 AM, they are located on Sukhumvit Soi 22, right next to Larry's restaurant. They have coffee and light food and some Kiwi and Aussie wines. Wi-fi is free but there are also computers available if you do not have a laptop and internet access on the PC is free with any coffee or food purchased. The speed is 4 meg so it's quick. Shinawatra Tower III Vipavadi Rangsit Road Among the retail outlets on the ground floor, there?s an S&P restaurant and a Japanese restaurant so you can have a cup of coffee or eat and surf the Net. Jasmine Suites Sukhumvit Soi 23 Free wi-fi access is offered on the ground floor lobby and at the pool. Serendipity Cafe Sukhumvit Soi 11 It's the old teak building next to Cheap Charlies which also has accommodation. Reasonable speed. Bangkok Suite Hotel Petchaburi Road They have been advertising rooms with free wi-fi for just 650 baht a night. Cheap, and a good option for the budget minded who want a constant net connection. Livingstone's Sukhumvit Soi 33 Free wi-fi in the hotel and surrounding lobby / pool area. This is a great place to hang out at with really good value steaks, and good Thai food too. Ranee's In an alley on the south side of Khao San Road. Good speeds have been reported from here. Sawasdii Krungthep Inn Soi Rambutrii A good signal can be had from this location, although from where the signal comes, is not known! Cafe Kaldi Suriwong Road Free wi-fi is offered. The cafe can be found at 56 Suriwong Road, outside the entrance to Montien Hotel. Black Swan Pub Sukhumvit Road, near soi 12, just under the Asoke BTS station. Free wi-fi is now offered. Muang Thai-Phatra Complex Rachadapisek Road If you go to the Starbucks there, your machine should see about seven wireless networks (including the not-free Starbucks one). Click on the one called ?Zylink? and surf for free. Some of the other available networks are probably free as well. Fashion Island Shopping Centre Ram Indra Road Free wi-fi but need to register and obtain a userID / password. Logins last 2 hours and you need to re-login again. Location and details is at www.fashionisland.co.th. The only place for ?safe? surfing with power point is at Starbucks, use the power points anywhere else and the security guards come and *****. Thammasat University Near the river. Internet access is completely free, powerpoints are available very sparsely, try the canteens for better luck. All Seasons Place Wireless Road There are loads of networks there. The one named ?Wing? works fine and is free. Big Mango Bar Nana Plaza, Sukhumvit soi 4. This great bar in Nana Plaza now has free wireless for customers. Sit in the comfort of the bar, enjoy the most inexpensive drinks in the plaza, and read Stickmanbangkok at the same time! Bully's Bar Sukhumvit Road, near the Nana intersection. Free wi-fi access is available in this increasingly popular bar. King Mongkut's Institute Of Technology North Bangkok. Free wi-fi is available at the Faculty of Engineering Building Number 81 at KMITNB. Barista Jam Café Soi ChokChai Ruamit. It is Wipawadee-Rangsit Soi 16, between Wipawadee-Rangsit and Rachadapisek, not to be confused with other ChokChais. Nice café, very pleasant people, tables indoors and out, good coffee, good wi-fi signal. 40 baht for an Americano; no food yet, but it just opened (5/06). Parking. Just off the main soi on sub soi 16/6. They roast coffee in a glass walled room at the back. Old German Beerhouse Sukhumvit Soi 11. More details about this venue can be found here. Dynasty Grande Sukhumvit Soi 8. This new hotel has free wi-fi available in the lobby. This signal may be picked up from some rooms - presumably those on the lower floors. A free LAN connection is provided in the rooms for those who cannot pick up the wi-fi signal from their room. Oh My Cod! In the lane with the temple near Khao Sarn Road. This excellent British style cafe with great fish and chips has a free wi-fi connection for customers to use. You need to be a customer of the venue and ask for the password. Honey Hotel Sukhumvit Soi 19 SSID = ?SMC?. Weak signal available in some rooms overlooking pool. Good signal available in the front section (by the windows) of the coffee shop / restaurant. Signal source unknown. The Dubliner Sukhumvit Road, near sois 20 and 22. This great Irish pub with some of the best breakfasts in town has free wi-fi. The Fun House Sukhumvit Soi 11 At the end of Sukhumvit Soi 11, the Fun House is now offering customers free wi-fi service. Stable Lodge Sukhumvit Soi 8 Has free wi-fi available. They used to have a password, but gave up on that. Some of the rooms on the lower levels get a connection too. http://www.stablelodge.com/ Brooklyn Bridge On Rama 9 road, off of Soi 17. On Rama 9 road, off of Soi 17, beside a 7 Eleven store. This is a fairly new cafe run by two American Thai guys, aged about 25. This shop is small, relatively quiet, has good inexpensive coffee, and a free wi-fi connection. Coffee Max and Restaurant Sukhumvit soi 22 branch; ground floor of Admiral Suites Hotel. Offers comfortable chairs, soft music, clean bathroom, car park right behind the shop. Looks like a coffee shop, but kitchen offers wide variety of Western sandwiches and dinners, plus nice selection of wines, along with Thai food and premium ice cream. So you can stay, eat, relax, long time. Usually quiet, so a good location for Internet telephone. Wi-Fi free to laptop users: no login, no password. Two rental computers available: 60 baht/hour. Open 0600-2300. Elefin Cafe Sukhumvit Soi 1. Just off the Ploenchit BTS Station, this newly renovated cafe has recently added a decently quick WiFi connection. Customers are given a receipt with a username and password that allows access to the network for one hour after purchasing a coffee, tea, or beer. The cafe itself is very good looking and relaxing with a very friendly staff. Coffee is pretty darn good as well. Siam Square The huge shopping area! I just noticed a large sign that says that True is providing FREE wi-fi in the Siam Square area. I have not tried it myself but would assume it can be used all over the Siam Square area. This area has a lot of cafes in small eateries so it is very welcome. Subway / Coffee World Near Nana intersection, Sukhumvit Soi 4 Free wi-fi is available in this popular spot but the connection is said to be not so fast. There are heaps of hotel rooms in the immediate so no doubt the signal is being captured by all and sundry! The new Bangkok Airport The new monstrosity on the ay to Pattaya! While some readers have reported free wi-fi is available at the airport, others have reported that they cannot find a free connection anywhere. I would assume that there are pay per use connections too - but can any readers advise in what sections of the airport the free connections can be found? Pattaya free wi-fi spots Misty's A Gogo Soi Pattayaland 2, Pattaya. The first gogo bar to have wi-fi! Misty's is in Soi Pattayaland 2 in Pattaya, the soi with all the neon. It will be interesting to see how popular it is in such an environment. Please note that the free wi-fi is ONLY available during the day time and at night it is turned off. Lewinsky's Soi Pattayaland 1, Pattaya. They have free wi-fi as well as good food and all the English language newspapers. It has been described as a great place for newcomers to come to find organized golf as well. Shenanigans Next to Royal Garden Shopping Centre, Second Road, Pattaya. One of my favourite bars in Thailand, and the one with the very best breakfasts - you just gotta try it! Shamrock Bar Pattaya Soi 13/4 There is an open hotspot in there which is a bit slow. Terry the owner does not know where the signal is coming from. Terry he decided to install his own hot spot, to be free to customers, at least initially. Penthouse Hotel Pattaya Soi 13/4 There is an open wi-fi hot spot in the cafe on the ground floor of The Penthouse Hotel. I suspect that the previously reported Hot Spot in The Shamrock Bar may be leakage from the Penthouse Hotel. Latest report is that it is free for customers of the hotel only. I guess that means there is a password needed... Nova Park Apartments and Jameson's Bar Soi Ar Pattaya This is a tough one to classify as some readers have told me the connection is excellent while others have told me it is poor. Hmmm.... Well, they have a connection and not everyone's experience is the same - let's leave it at that! Caffe Patini Soi Nuakao (south of the market) Great coffees, farang / Thai food, air-conditioning, ice cream, cute waitresses, and owner Paul is a gent. Open 9 AM - 9 PM daily. There are many tables as well as a pleasant terrace outdoors. AUA University Pattaya North Road They have 2 excellent open connections, both described as having great speed. The university is quite small but there are many adjacent farang businesses so perhaps the signal comes from there. Carrefour food court Pattaya Klang Road There are 2 open wi-fi signals but neither has a strong signal. Shamrock Bar Soi Pattayaland 2. The Shamrock now has it's own free wireless hot spot and computer - totally free of charge! Lennie's Bar Soi Diamond, first bar on the right when coming from Pratumnak Rd., or last bar on the left when coming from Walking Street; directly opposite Casino Club. Apart from offering free Wireless Internet, they also have a stationary Internet PC with CD burner and Card reader available for our guests! Ma Maison Hotel Near soi 13, Pattaya. Has a nice restaurant, if a non-guest wanted to sit and surf while having a drink or a meal. Niddy's Nook Soi Day Night One, Pattaya. Free wi-fi is offered in this gay restaurant and bay. Triopical Bert's 2nd road, just before Soi 6, opposite Bangkok Bank. Nice place, no hassle. Pattaya Garden Apartments Pratumnak Hill, Pattaya. They offer free wi-fi to guests. It is password protected. The download speed is 512mbps and runs 24 hrs/day. One reader said that there were great management and staff there too. Sanya Apartments South Pattaya Road, Pattaya. Welcome Plaza Hotel Second Road Free wi-fi is not offered by the hotel per se, but from this hotel you can get one of about three different open signals, all of which have good speed. Tested and worked from the 5th and 6th floors. (It should be noted that the number of open wi-fi signals in Pattaya is increasing greatly and simply turning on the wi-fi feature on your laptop in many hotels, especially those in areas with lots of bars and restaurants, may well see you finding a free signal). Tim's Boutique Hotel Second Road, Pattaya This new hotel on Second Road right behind Tim Beer Bar has free wi-fi access. Please note, free wi-fi access is no longer available in Tim Beer Bar. Phuket free wi-fi spots Mai Thai Bar Soi Eric, Phuket. I wonder if this was the first beer bar in Thailand to provide wi-fi access free? Pop in and say hello to the friendly owner Nicke and surf the net for free. Just expect all of the bargirls in the area to want to check their email while you're there! Personally, I'm not so sure that beers and surfing the net on your own laptop mix, but it is still great that it is offered. Burisiri Resort Patong Beach, Phuket. It's complimentary, presumably intended for guests only, and they have wireless cards at reception if your laptop does not have wi-fi built in, which is a nice touch. There is no password required. Sounds like a pleasant experience, relaxing in a Thai resort, surfing the net while lazing beside the pool. Rio's Patong Beach, Phuket. wi-fi is now available at Rio's, the newish bar below Rock Hard A Gogo on Patong's busiest corner at the top of Soi Bangla. CC Blooms Kata Beach, Phuket. Good speeds and the cost of food and drink is not dear. It's a better alternative than an internet cafe if you are travelling with your laptop. Please note that you have to ask the staff for the password. Pacific Club And Spa Karon Beach, Phuket. This highly recommended hotel has free wi-fi access. Jimmy's Lighthouse Chalong Pier, Phuket. With a fast net connection, this spot has been described as a delightful pub / cafe / restaurant. Little Buddha Guesthouse Nanai Road, Patong Beach, Phuket. Complimentary wi-fi is offered to guests in the lobby and some rooms of this guesthouse in Nanai Road, Patong. (www.littlebuddhaphuket.com). Safari Beach Hotel Patong Beach, Phuket. Good speed, always on. Prince Hotel 3 Taiwang Rd, Chiang Mai. They have free Wi-Fi, 256 Kbps, which works in the lobby and pool area also. Computer City Mall Outer NW corner of the moat. Good signal, waiting chairs in ground floor. Upper floor has chairs too, much less people Duangtawan Hotel Loi Kroh rd., between old town and river. Open WLAN, weak signal, but mostly usable (tested in 11th floor of east wing). The *official* WLAN of that hotel costs 1 to 2 baht per minute depending on the amount of time you buy. Good View Bar & Restaurant On the river. Has free wi-fi in very pleasant but conservative surroundings. The Garden Chiang Mai Guesthouse Loi Kroh Road Has free wi-fi for whoever drops in and has a meal or a drink. The Pirates Cove/Cave(?) Ratchamankha Road Free wi-fi is offered and they also have glasses of white wine at just 50 baht a glass. Central / Kad Suan Kaew Shopping Centre That big shopping centre! IT City has free access. You can relax in the food centre opposite the entrance of the computer shops. Koh Samui free wi-fi spots Coco Blues Company On the main road at Chaweng Beach, towards the northern end of the beach, near the Iyara Hotel. This bar / live music venue is quiet during the day and had a good, solid connection. Using your own laptop there beats using an internet cafe - most net cafes in Samui charge 1 baht a minute, so if you are cheap (like me), you can buy a coke for 40 baht and then surf away. Ubon Rachatani free wi-fi spots Nevada Grande Hotel Thanon Chayangkun. SSID = ?KH CHAOPHAYAINN?. Very strong signal around the lobby and coffee shop. Fast connection. Sofitel The big hotel! If you sit on the beach out the front of the Sofitel you ca get a weak signal from there. Of course, you could be sneaky and go and sit by the pool if you are really daring...! Tientong Guesthouse Located in the Grand Plaza, off Petchakasem Rd, right behind the Grand Hotel. Has free 24 hour wireless access via a linksys router (good connection/speed as long as the ISP (TOT ADSL 1 Mbps) is up and running. Buffalo Bill's At Fisherman's Wharf 8 Naresdamri Road, Hua Hin. A reader has reported discovering a great free wi-fi connection there. They don't have any computers other than maybe staff ones, so the connection is really good. He managed to get a pretty good Skype connection which is difficult enough at the best of times, never mind on wi-fi, and on a small island! HC Andersen hotel Phi-phi. At certain times of the year the rooms are only 500 baht which is amazing considering you get free internet. It is said to cut out maybe twice a day but hey, we can live with that. It was after 20:00 so maybe they have put something in recently rather than relying on nearby offices. O'Reillys They also have wi-fi but you have to get a username and password. Last time I was there, the first two waitresses misremebered the password and eventually the manager was called to help me. I connected but still couldn't get a usable signal. That all kind of confirmed my impression as a tourist pub rather than one serious about attracting residents. Irish Xchange Strong open signal with lots of bandwidth and if it goes down they fix it quickly. You can see about half a dozen people connecting just after office hours. They also provide electiricty outlets (some hidden in strange places) and if you are not sitting near an outlet, ask the staff and they will bring an extension cord and connect you. This is the way wi-fi should be... Roadhouse Strong open signal and many tables have a power outlet too (above the windows). This is another place that seems serious about attracting the laptop crowd. Open Wi-fi signals are cropping up everywhere now. I hope Starbucks and those other TRUE wi-fi spots lose out quickly with their insanely priced per minute "service" that you can't even buy online with a credit card and which have no low cost monthly fee. THose over priced cards are a disgrace and make Thailand many times more expensive than the US for wi-fi for travelling businessmen. Very shortsighted.
