k123mp_Do
I have a bank account in the USA, and a paypal account. I move here, and discover I can't use them for purchases - at least not anything I want delivered here. In fact, any money I make on eBay through paypal, I have to have my family transfer for me from the states. I've ordered a paypal debit card, which will allow me to withdraw cash here, but I can't buy things here and have them delivered here with it. So I make a new paypal account, give them my Siam Commercial bank account number, and try to use that. But paypal wants a credit card, the bank account number isn't good enough. Ok, so I get a Mastercard/debit card from the bank, but paypal rejects it. I have a Thai friend put my name/address in in Thai, to get a perfect match (to avoid rejection based on incorrect billing address match). Low and behold, that didn't work either. So I talk to the manager at the bank: "This debit card didn't work online." (manager with confused look) "Yes, it work. It debit card." "But it doesn't work online. It keeps getting an error." (even more confused) "This card work, sure. Debit card like you ask." So I'm stuck. I can't get a real credit card (my credit is pretty shot) - and even if I did, I would still have the billing address matching problem (if that IS the problem). (BTW - this is the second debit card I've tried to make with paypal that didn't work, the other one was with my Thai GF name & bank account). How do any of you pay for things that you have shipped here? Do any of you have debit cards that have worked for you? What about ordering from eBay and paying for them and having them shipped here? Aaaaaaargh!!!
jamie_1
you can pay for things on ebay with money in your paypal account. as always. I had PayPal money transfer into my bank account and pulled out large amounts of cash for living and/or transfer into your thai account. there will be some fees. nothing you can do, but it is not so much if you plan accordingly. A foreign credit card should work fine for online purchases that do not accept PayPal.

k123mp_Do
Jamie, how do you get a foreign CC? Is there a credit check? (I did mention my US credit is shot, right?) I draw $ from my US bank account through the ATM's. I just ordered a paypal virtual debit card which will hopefully allow me to draw cash from paypal without having to transfer from my US bank. Thanks lipp, I took you hint and went to Siam Bank and requested online banking. I don't know if it will help, but I'll give it a shot. I'll also try to get an account with Kasikorn. I tried to go to a few banks before Siam (Bangkok and TMB), and was rejected by both. I have to have a business, work permit, or student visa to get an account. The manager at the Siam bank didn't really want to give me an account either, but I wouldn't stop bugging him Hopefully I can figure this all out! Do I need residency paperwork, or do they just not care? Is it easy to sign the bank card up on Paypal ? (my Siam card and the other TMB card keeps making an error) I agree on paypal being screwed up, I recently lost over $100 bucks to a chargeback from a UK user (I didn't notice his little circle of friends to build his rep up). I'm looking at the google checkout page as I write this...I will sign up if I can, but I may have to wait for that Kasikorn account... tHaNks! zeusbheld
or you could just ship things to a friend in the us and have them ship stuff to you in thailand. even amazon b and h etc i do that because usually they give free shipping within the us and charge ten times as much to ship to thailand as it'd cost you to ship yourself. koyha
How much does it cost? - In Europe using my debit/credit card? ---> Nothing - In Thailand/USA ---> I think the formula is about "the money I withdraw+2%+2 euro's" So if I withdraw 100 euro's at Thailand it cost's me 100 + 2 + 2 euro's = 104 euro's. But it depends of your card ---> And when you need money at a bar or... It's a legend... You are never poor Luckily, we are just people, guess that none of us is a superman, expect me:)
