Siam Ocean World

Well, I went there today. Unless you're totally clueless, it's Southeast Asia's largest aquarium and located in the basement level of the newly opened Siam Paragon shopping complex.

It is impressive, I must admit. There are hundreds of fish tanks displaying a wide variety of ocean life and it will take you at least a couple of hours to get through it. It was capped off by a shark-feeding show at the auditorium where two divers descend into the huge tank to feed the sharks. That show alone lasts about half an hour. And the "rain forest" section reminds me very much of "Pirates of the Caribbean" at Disneyland in Anaheim, California.

So I recommend it for good fun and it's educational as well. There is one section where visitors are allowed to touch things like sea urchins and starfish. The only complaint I would have is the admission price - 450 baht for Thais and foreigners alike. Is it worth it? Ummmm...I'd like to say yes, but if the price were more like 300 baht then I'd say definitely!

Go and enjoy!

SoFarAway: Pics are allowed, no problem. But I forgot my digital camera and yes, I did take some pics with my mobile phone but as we all know the quality kinda sucks. As to not asking you, I don't invite people who live far away! Sum num nah! lol

breakofdawning: I wouldn't all it "second in the third world" It's beter than that! Sure, it's not like New York or Chicago or San Francisco but it's good!

Estella: I can't believe you have a fish fetish! Shocked! I didn't go alone, by the way. :-)

nun_smile: There were a surprising number of people there for a weekday, but the queue was less than 5 minutes, no problem.

according to what ann cutiegirl told me, they didnt treat all the fish really well as when those fish live in the sea... if u notice, u might see there're a lot of white spot on the fish body.. that means they're really sick..maybe cos of unbalance pressure acid...environment thingy... i dont know how to explain ...that doesnt go very well with them. ppl there even serve all the fish with frozen food which is not good at all..very predictable, some of them might die within one month ...if they wouldnt get any better treat..imagine that..very expensive fish ...aha!!

well u better go to see it before they die.........

have i seen it yet? nope...just what i heard from the scuba diving lover who love undersea nature and has seen various kinda fish already!

someone said that the fish might look pretty ill at the moment coz they have been transferred from the sea to the tank so that's pretty normal. they will look better in 4-5 month time. and that's when it's recommended. ^_^

filurina: I'm not an ichthyologist but I didn't especially notice any sick-looking fish. I think the management must know that keeping the fish healthy is the key to their profits and it will be expensive if they have to keep bringing in more fish. At least I hope they know that.

breakofdawning: You may be right. But as you see from my comment to filurina, they looked quite healthy to me.
