I was discharged from the hospital last night. While that's good, unfortunately I remain very, very ill and will not be logging into TF regularly.

In a previous journal I told you that I have a condition called edema. It is swelling of the legs and body cavity caused by fluid buildup in the tissue.I would love to tell you that my condition is improving, but in fact it is getting worse and quite rapidly. Tonight was the big birthday bash at Absolute 7 Bar, and I got there early, around 7:00. But I never could get quite comfortable on the bar stool and after an hour began to have some stomach problems too. Well, I wasn't being nice and social as usual, and I thought it's better just for me to go home and get comfortable.

I guess it's time to tell you all exactly what's wrong with me and why I am having problems.
Over the past three months I have developed severe edema. What is that? Here's the dictionary definition: "Swelling from excessive accumulation of serous fluid in tissue." It begins in thelower legs and then if it worsens, it moves upward. And that's what's happened to me. It moved into my thighs and most recently into my torso.

The doc phoned me early this morning to discuss the results of the blood test I had when I went to see him last Wednesday. It seems that there were some deficiences revealed that give him more clues about the cause of my problems, and he said that he would take another blood sample when I go back next Wednesday. In addition, he wants to do a doppler ultrasound on my heart, liver, and kidneys.

Well, I'm back, quite unexpectedly to be honest. The doc felt that there was nothing they could do for me as an inpatient beyond what they could do as an outpatient. So I got a fistful of new medication to try and report back to the doc in a week.

Finally I will stop procrastinating and stop hoping for a miracle and see the doc tomorrow. I think the chances are at least 95% that I'll have to stay in the hospital for a few days for treatment. So I won't be able to be online during that time.

Update: Well, I didn't go to see the doc or go to the hospital. When I woke up on Monday morning the swelling and inflammation in my foot
was less. So now I'm just monitoring the situation. If the need arises, I will go. But so far so good.

Some of you may recall that a couple of weeks ago I was battling a leg infection. I was just barely able to convince the doc not to admit me to the hospital and to be treated as an outpatient instead. The treatment worked, and the infection went away.
Well, it seems that my leg has become re-infected! Unless there is a dramatic improvement in the morning I'll need to see the doc again and this time I'm very afraid that he'll insist that I be admitted for treatment! So if I'm not online for th

Well, it rained yesterday (big storm) and tonight it's raining again. Frankly, I think it's great! It cleans the air and the streets after months of dryness. Yes, I know some people will complain that the change in weather gives them a cold and makes life more difficult. But it also cools the air and after about a month of living in a very hot city the coolness is very welcome! My windows are open again! I hope the rain keeps up so that I can go to sleep with the lovely sound of rain!
