I am in the midst of planning my trip to Thailand and I came across an unusual promotion which I am considering of taking up on.

The promotion is to stay at a 4 plus Star Resort in Phuket for 7 nights for a 30% discount to the normal price. It is located along Patong Beach.

But the catch is that you have to participate in a 90 minutes resort tour presentation during your stay. In addition, you need to satisfy the income test.

My first thought on this was - this was a time share promotion by the resort.

My second thought was - it was a promotion by the resort to attract tourists back to Phuket.

My third thought was - this could be a scam like the Nigerian letters.

I am wondering whether anyone has knowledge of such things or have taken up such offers from resorts in Phuket or anywhere else in Thailand for that matter.

If so, what have been your experience?

I never use package trips, just book tickets and hotels by my self ...usually that comes cheaper than those package trips even they have some promotions. You should check what that kind of trip will cost, if you book everything by your self.

Venne, on this occassion - it is cheaper. I have compared the prices and as stated, it is about 30% less than the normal price.

My guess is that you'll be dragged around to different 'business opportunities', some is gonna hang on your back until you buy what they offer. Same as when you're offered a tuktuk ride for 10 bath in BKK...

...the resort probably gets paid to do this (as the tuktuk drivers do in BKK)...

Hugo, I agree with you. It is a bit strange. I had my suspicion about this too.

Poul, that is also my concern too. I would hate to be pestered for 7 days and nights when I am trying to unwind.

This is a time share deal where they are going to relentlessly hound you and try to sell you a time share. It will make your stay miserable. If you need a good travel agent in Phuket, PM me and I will send you the one that I use.
