In Chiang Rai, part 2: Thawan Duchanee
There are many artists living in Chiang Rai. One of the first things I came to see in Chiang Rai were the grounds of Thawan Duchanee. My friend Num took me there, for he knew I was interested in art. The temples and artifacts at the grounds are somehow connected with death and black is the color most present.Later Num introduced me to his art teacher, Raywat Deekaew, who became a close friend and my personal art teacher. For two years Raywat taught me about art. I went there every single Saturday. Raywat Deekaw is a friend of Thawan Duchanee. He designed the buffalo chairs as to be seen in some of the pictures. A very huge building was recently built. Within four years it will become the galery of both Thawan Duchanee and Raywat Deekaew. The grounds are to be found one on the super highway from Chiang Rai to Mae Sai. After you've past the turn to Ratchaphat university (and continued straight on), take the first soi left and go left again at the blue sign.About Thawan Duchanee: http://www.rama9art.org/thawan/index.htmlOther pics on Flick-r: http://www.flickr.com/photos/artiefacts/sets/509810/
