While on a visit to a good friend of mine, and trying to access some videos on youtube.com I have been informed that TOT in its infinate wisdom has taken it upon itself to block ALL youtube.com videos and give a polite messge that states. "We're sorry this video is no longer available." rather than "We're sorry but you ain't gonna see S*^T"

I know there is stuff on youtube that is pretty stupid and some will find offensive, and living here I can understand even blocking a video about the royalty, but considering all of the crap that I see on Channel 7 every day, I can not imagive what TOT deems so horrible that all videos must be banned? Other providers have not blocked this site so it is purely a TOT thing. HAPPY SURFING

I am a TOT subscriber, and what I was told by the supervisor of their customer service department is not that the TOT has decided in its infinite wisdon to block youtube, but that the ICT minister in the DEMOCRATICALLY-ELECTED government has ordered them to block youtube.

As TOT is a state enterprise, it has no choice but to follow the order.

I can see it from here...in Thailand....

Hey i get same problem with you. I'm gonna think to change to be TT&T also. I can't see any youtube video as it's pop up shown same as you said.

loburt? how long ago had this block begun? I am talking about a new block this year. I have not heard anything in the media about a new block.

My connection in BKK works fine but it is not through TOT. and Eric the connection is paid for i think censorship by state enterprise is scarry.

Yes, the block started this year. I"m not sure exactly when because I only switched to TOT this year and wasn't aware beforehand they were doing this.

Needless to say I'm pissed.

They haven't said why, but I'm sure the ban has to do with videos concerning "the institution."

I wonder why we're not seeing the same level of outrage over this by various regular posters on TF, when they were livid that the coup government had blocked youtube.

Censorship is censorship, whether or not who is doing is democratically elected or not. It's hypocritical to condemn one government for doing it, and the keep silent when another does exactly the same thing.

I would be careful about switching to TT&T. Aren't they also a state enterprise? If they are, that means the minister can order them to block things whenever he feels like it.

Try and get True or one of the others.

It's pathetic, especially for those of us who don't have a choice. It's either TOT or nothing where I am. How about some effective ridicule? Of course, when we cooperate with the junta in Burma it's fine, since slavery, murder, and rape are all acceptable and don't need to be censored. Or would scenes of our business partners killing innocent people in hill tribes not be allowed on youtube?

well the funny thing was the first time it was blocked i believed it was actually cause taksin was using it to get out his version of the story when the other side was in power. so what is the real reason now? What is on there that the PAD is doing or is it something else? anyone have a clue?
