Loburt 4 Posted September 25, 2008 Report Share >>>>I hardly can imagine even one single person who wouldn't love the song.<<<< Oh man, are you wrong. Almost every falang I know living in Bangkok HATES this song, because for several years the Thais NEVER stopped playing it. We hate it so much it's become a running joke among many of us. I used to have a friend in Bangkok who whenever bar bands here would announce they were taking requests, would send up a note to them reading "My request is DON'T play Hotel Califorina.'' CobraKai 0 Posted September 25, 2008 Report Share Apparently someone once decided this was the best song for testing car stereos, due to the high level of production that went into it or something. That's what my brother, who had the loudest car stereo in England the weekend before he died, was told. So, when testing his car stereo one time, I caught him swapping his usual 'Dungeon of Bass' CDs for my Dad's 'Best of The Eagles' album. Not sure what our neighbours made of seeing a pimped out, lowered BMW with tinted windows blasting that out at top volume! This song actually has a special place in my heart because of that, and a road trip to France I took with my parents as a kid. We had three tapes in the car and they were a rap mix I'd made, 3rd Bass' 'The Cactus CD' and an Eagles album. I remember hating it when it was The Eagles' turn to go on, yet we would all sing along to Hotel California as our crappy Fiat Panda slowly made it's way to the South of France. I seem to hear this track about 5 times per visit to Thailand (way less than Black Eyed Peas though). Even found myself rocking out to it on the overnight train to Chiang Mai on a very drunken first trip to Thailand. Link to comment
