Some kids which were grown up in Sweden don't talk Thai language at all. I don't know exactly why. However, I think it doesn't really matters because they were not grown up in Thailand they don't want to live in Thailand. BF said it does matter because they 've got to learn the culture of their parents. So he thinks that I should persuade kids to learn Thai. But I don't know. I don't really want to persuade kids to learn Thai if they have already made up their minds.

What do you think?

for me doesnt matter where we're gonna live but sure im gonna teach my baby to speak thai to communicate with my mum since she cant speak english. if i had a kid i would try to speak only thai with him/her cos i dont want my kid to have my silly accent so better let the dad do the job with english.

also, its always good to know more than 1 language isnt it?

It's easier for childern to learn a language then grown ups. If I have a child, he/she must be bilingual. It's a special gift from multicultural parents. If childern grow up with 2 languages in the house, childern don't make decision if they want to be bilingual or not,

I think you husband is smart...

Teach them Thai... if they want to or not.

It is easy for kids at a young age to learn new languages. It is not unusual for kids in Europe to be able to speak 4-5 differnt languages anymore.

If I was a better kid, i would have listened to my mom, and have been able to speak a little more thai than i do right now.

My aunt got my cousin to learn Thai since she was young... and luckily she enjoys that she can read some Thai. And if I have kid s/he will have to learn my language of course.. wherever we are.

Teaching your kids anything is good for them and being taught a language is special take the time to teach them and make it fun. they may not appreciate it now but believe me they will when they are grown up. I wish I could speak many languages you never who your gonna meet and need to communicate with

Thank you for your inputs. Right now I am watching Melodiesfestival in Sweden.

There are so many language. But I think most of them are sung in English.

There is even a greek song, and a kinda french song, I think.

If the mother is Thai,Philippine,Vietnamese what ever of course the children should learn their heritage language so that they can communicate with their family.

Most secondary colleges in Australia it's compulsory to learn a 2nd language.

As Nicky said it's easier for children to learn than when you are older and with a parent and family talking that 2nd language it should make even easier.

Hmmm...If one were born in a family which speak Thai, they can at least understand Thai. But some parents said that they prefer not to talk Thai with their own children because they want to practice speaking Swedish with their children.
