Today, is 10th anniversary of NATO bombing my country. To cut the long story short, we were too proud and say NO to NATO blackmail. 78 days of heavy bombing, in operation (how ironically!) called "Mercifull angel", they show us their power...it was good exercise for  next-coming bombing of Iraqi people...Today, in our temples, we will pray for peace and for over 3000 innocent souls (civilians) and about 5000 soldiers who died in this "accident"......NATO's bombing campaign involved 1,000 aircraft operating from Italian bases, and the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt stationed in the Adriatic Sea. At dusk, F-18 Hornets of the Spanish Air Force were the first NATO planes to bomb Belgrade and perform SEAD operations. BGM-109 Tomahawk cruise missiles were fired from ships and submarines. The United States was the dominant member of the coalition against Serbia, although all NATO members were involved. During the ten weeks of the conflict, NATO aircraft flew over 38,000 combat missions. For the German Air Force (Luftwaffe), the mission was its first conflict participation since World War II. more at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1999_NATO_bombing_of_Yugoslavia We can forgive our enemies, but we never forget...This heroic act of one small nation against the most powerful military force in the world, show the world that there is still people who like freedom and justice more than anything in the world...I still remember our days in basements, in shelters, I still remember sounds of aircrafts above our heads...now is peace, and we try to rebuild our beloved fatherland...and hope that all the wars in the world will end, and let be peace on our beautiful planet...

I would just like to say many of us did not and still do not not agree with the way that certain powers have used force and continue countries such as yours and and continue to do so to many others. Although we are meant to live in a democratic society's where our people are meant to have a say in our government actions, in reality we do not.

I can not speak for everyone in my country but only for myself when I say I am truly sorry for the actions that were taken against you and the people of your home. Our Government only hear from it's people what it want's to hear and when we shout peace they ignore us.

Hmmm.... Did we all forget exactly why NATO bombed Yugoslavia?

NATO did a great job in Yugoslavia. They toppled another evil regieme, and put its leaders (war criminals) behind bars where they belong.

They do deploy very slowly, due to all of the red tape.

Which is a shame as they could have saved many more innocent lives if they had gone in quicker.

NATO were not the bad guys in this conflict!

As someone who has spent a lot of time in the Balkans, I was saddened by the events of the 90's (we went to Mostar in 94 to play parties).

The NATO bombing was brutal and completely out of proportion to what was needed. However, we cannot condemn NATO and condone the atrocities perpetrated by Milosevic and his cronies.

I also hesitate to use the term Yugoslavia for what was, in effect, only Serbia and Montenegro...

I had a friend who worked as a forensic pathologist in the region during the conflicts. To say he is haunted by his work would be a gross understatement. About 2 years after he returned he left the profession and opened a shop as he said he had seen enough death for several lifetimes.

Civilian casualties caused by military force, be it Dresden, Coventry, Hiroshima, Baghdad or Belgrade is always sickening.

But ethnic cleansing, rape of women and children and mass graves are just as sickening...

The only thing I know is that during the 90'ies many people have died in the Ex-Yugoslavia countries... and many of them well before any international coalition was invilved.

Even if the bombing episode is something really sad and deploreable I don't think that life was great for some of the minorities in those region...

So when 2 or more countries, ethnic groups or religious groups don't find the way to live together peacefully or at least respecting each others what options there are? Interferences from outside will rise condemnations and a wait-and-see policy will just bring to nothing but ceaseless mutual exchange of violences and accusations...

Conclusion: there's no good solution...

But it's irritating to to see people that keep commiting all sorts of violece and then claim they are ONLY victims and they are ONLY defending themself... in most cases all parties have their share of guilt and esponsabilities

Much as I hate to agree with Iain on ANYTHING, I have to echo him this time. It5 was the Serbs who started the conflict with their ethnic cleansing in Croatia and Bosnia, crimes for which the main perpetrator Milosevic never paid. Karadic was no less guilty and he is in custody awaiting trial, but Mladic has still to be arrested. The Serb crimes against humanity were the worst in Europe since those of Hitler. But having said that, I also accept that the American response was totally out of proportion - but then the US mili6tary do have an unpleasant habit of lacking finesse and going in two footed. There was fault on both sides, but it's significant that no-one from NATO has been accused of war crimes in the way that Milosevic, Karadic and Mladic have.

Quilty in civil war is always personal, you cannot blame whole nation...I can counting a numberous crimes that others do to the Serbian civilians, and it will took lot of times...but everything see only one picture, and if you know whole truth, you always must hear both sides...I am peaceful man...
