I cant believe that my other 6 colleagues and I are called to have a small private meeting for the fact we're TOP 10 internet user of the company. Should I be proud? Hell no.. I just dont understand why the company has to be so strict and doesnt allow all employees to be free using internet anytime we like. Well for my company we can only be allowed to use internet during lunch and after work. it doesnt mean that we cant access it during working hours, we cant but most ppl dont dare. I do hahaha .. IT department has reported this TOP 10 list to my manager since they found out too many of us have accessed to www.e-messenger.net all day long. Why? cos MSN and Yahoo messenger have already been blocked for ages ago! U can see the picture below that no more e-messenger.net for us.. effectively today.. well im not hopeless.. ive still got another one for me to sneak away haha

May, u gotta be careful na.

The Companies has the rights to stop employees from usage of internet.

The Companies has alot reasons, like virus attack etc.

Anyway, it's still the Companies' properties.

If you can install programs on your computer you can try Trillian Pro. This is what I use at work to get around our firewall. hehe You may also need there proxy address but that should be in your IE settings. Bad thing is you have to pay for Trillian Pro ... Good thing is they have a lite version, just not sure if that one will work. Does not hurt to try the lite and upgrade if you can. Here is their website. http://www.trillian.cc/

You can always try using an alternative proxy...

This way your company CAN'T block you...hehehe

If you want to get any help, just PM or MSN / Yahoo me..I will be happy to help you with it..

Good luck, Gert

May...try this in your InternetExplorer

go to "Tools"..."Internet Options"..."Connections"..."LAN settings"...mark the "Use a proxy server"...fill in at the "Address" 65.90.49.14

Click OK, OK and you are done!!

Now your Boss won't see where you are browsing to...

Good luck and welcome back.. ;-)

CG I am wondering how do you expect that to work for two reasons. First to use a proxy server you also need a port # like 80 or 8080 or whatever else it may be set at for internet usage on that proxy address. Second is that 65.90.49.14 address you gave is to Centrix Financial's website. Is this where you work? (You might be giving the address to your proxy inside the company and it isn't good for outside.)

Filur........ That seems very familiar too me in other sences -but its (APM) MAERSK in a nutshell - onboard the ships, carying the Danish flag, the crew allowed to 2 beers a day and 1 bottle of Alcohol a month, for X-mas 1 beer extra on the hollidays and 1 glas of wine for the X-mas dinner, New years Eve - 1 Beer extra - 1 glass of wine and a glass of cheap sparkling wine.......

A saying by the sailors in the good old days:

"Maersk Line Maersk lin White and Blue - nothing for free but plenty to do"

The star in their logo have 7 tentacles - 1 for each day of work - I still remember good ol Arnold Petr Moeller Himself - the founder of the company he was rough - but McKinney even worrst in many cases - but he know the way to make money I can tell - net-gross b4 tax in Denmark 2002 +2,3 billion DKr. (diveded by 0.16 u got it in bath) :-)

Poor You

Matrix, just use 65.90.49.14 in your Internet-settings...without a portnumber it will use port 80 by default...but you are right..you may want to fillin the port 80..

The webserver probably also is working as a proxy...so try it if you can...

Another source to look for a proxy will be http://www.samair.ru/proxy/fresh-proxy-list.htm

Or else you can put this one in your IE-settings

anon.free.anonymizer.com

or try this one in your webbrowser

http://anon.free.anonymizer.com/http://www.e-messenger.net

Good luck..

And finally, No..i am working for an other company.. ;-)

May I am sorry CG and I keep going back and forth between this subject but I still have to say it will not work. All those addresses do are hide your IP Address from the outside world not let you get through your companies firewall or switch configuration. I hope we do not lose you on the technical terms here either.

If the company knows their stuff like my company then she will not even be able to access those web addresses because they have filters into place that will give her a 403 Forbidden on the content of it being Anonymizer. Your way around your problem is not to hide your IP address ... it is to get through through policy settings they have. Either do this by tunneling or find an alternate proxy used at work that is open to the content you are trying to access. Maybe you can batter your eye lashes at the IT Dept? hehehe

The reason why I mentioned Trillian up above is they tunnel through the internet web port so it sees it just like you are going to TF or MSN website. Be cautioned though ... they will still be tracking your internet usage by your user login ID and no real way around that. Getting caught using the TOP 10 again may cost you your job if you are willing to still go along with this internet usage.

Best of Luck to ya ... And don't do anything I wouldn't do. hehehehe

may remind me... there's a web browser that the press use in china to get past filtered internet sites, i dont know the techie side like a lot of these guys but my friends use it to see websites that are blocked in china. (i got major points with y by having a friend send it to her heheh)...

i dont know if it would work with an internal firewall... may be worth a try... some combination of this and trillian and managing your online minutes downward so you are not in the top 10 would be worthwhile.

i'd imagine you have some access to installing things. even if your company is running something like deep freeze, you can install every time u reboot, it just wont let u change the hard drive.

be careful though girl, like bobbyboy sez u might need to look into a 12 step program for internet addiction... NA? no that's taken IA? Internetaholics Anonymous?

as for me i can quit at any time..

lol thank you for all msg. Its actually nothing so serious.. 7 of us were laughing as hell as we knew why we were there. its the e-messenger.net thing that keeps running on my computer all day even though i dont even chat with anyone! I am so damn busy when im at work. This is not gonna happen again trust me. The company would do like a internet usage once a year. They're not gonna fire me just cos im using too much internet. Well im not internet addicted.. i just forgot to close all web browsers after using hehe..the funny thing is before we change to use Window Xp i was still able to log on msn by using internet proxy of my company indian branch haha the IT guy there gave me the code... pretty ironic huh?

I've laughed reading this all. It seems like the companies are checking internet usage not only in our company here in belgium. There are indeed ways to get around this all, but all i would say is to be carefull. It can cost u your job. My company fired some guys who made use of it during the working hours. I have it hard also to follow some of these stupid rules, but i can understand the IT's and the bosses as well.

May, perhaps u can make it a topic on the forum: How to work around the companies firewall. Lots of IT guys on TF that can give some hints, ahhaha

Link to comment

yes, very ironic...some of the naughty little internet tricks i have learned have come from the IT guys who are supposed to be protecting the system. its like a cop teaching me how to rob a bank... hey, that sounds like a good idea. LOL.
