I did my first degree at London Schoolof Economics, whose emblem/mascot/symbol, call it what you will,is ... yes, a beaver. And the number of timesI turned up for work at Goldman Sachs a few years later wearing a LSE tie to be asked why there's a squirrel on my tie to tell the questioner the creatuire's true identity and cause a big laugh :-) Also, one year, during rag week I went around wearing a LSE rag sweat shirt that said "Save trees, eat a beaver"

The official explanation for LSE adopting the beaver as its emblem was that it's a very industrious creature. We student, however, explained it differently - If you think of HE as a flow of knowledge, the beaver blocks up the flow!!
