Do you have what it takes to complete the Thailand Friends Amazing Race?  

On Saturday, Jan 22 players from across the globe will come together to compete in one of the most intense endurance races every invented.  Forget marathons, the Tour de France, Le Mans, Dakar Rally.  Those are nothing.  :-)

Okay, maybe the TF Amazing Race isn't quite that challenging but contestants will have to use their wits to make it around the grand city of Bangkok and be the first to arrive back at the original starting point to claim a 1000 baht prize.  This year we are keeping the bars that contestants must visit a secret except for the starting point which will be at The Sportsman.  From there you will be handed an envelope with your first destination.  You must use either the BTS or a automobile taxi (no motorbikes) to get to your first destination.  There you will need to complete a skill task and finish one alcoholic drink before being given your second destination.  

We plan on having about five or so bars participating (we're still working out details with each bar) going from Sukhumvit to Silom and they won't necessarily be in convenient order so you may be zig-zagging back and forth across Bangkok.  We're also throwing in a few surprises along the way just to make things interesting.  

And what is the prize for being the first to return to The Sportsman having completed the entire race?  A car?  A house?  No, we will have a 1000 baht waiting at the finish line for the winning team to split.  That's 500 smackers each for each team member just for doing what they probably would have done on a Saturday night anyway.  

Afterwards we'll hang out for a bit and share the laughter and tears of the grueling evening :-)

Do you need another reason to get involved?  Probably not but we'll give you one anyway.  Each bar has generously offered to give us 50% of the revenue generated to help out Wanphen's family.  

So what are the rules?  

1.  You must be at the starting bar no later than 9pm

2.  You can either choose a partner or we can assign one to you

3.  You must visit all of the bars, drink one alcoholic drink at each bar, and complete a task as assigned by the bar manager/owner

4.  You must travel by foot, BTS, or automobile taxi

how much contestant has to pay to join?

Just because I want to see as many people as possible in the race 0 baht. If you want to make a contribution of a 20, 50, 100 baht or whatever to the money we're raising for Wanphen I would rather do that.

and how can us ex-pat TF members join in? it nice to donate money but couldn't there be a punting event also? you know, i'll put 50 baht (100, 200 etc) on ciaran to be stuck in the first pub.

Finally an event that involves lots of booze! About time, booze/drinking events are rare indeed. Me and my liver will sign up asap.

Yes, but since nobody from on TF will still be in the tournament at 8pm it shouldn't have much overlap.
