..... i don't want a tour guide.

But what i do want is some information from people in Samui and Phuket. Booked for Songkran on Samui but obviously with the floods this is in serious jeapordy and i'm preparing to cancel. What are the forecasts from the 12th April onwards or is it too early to tell?

In all honesty although my heart was set on Samui it is likely that I will switch my attention to Chiang Mai however Phuket remains an option and was wondering if anybody can tell me how bad the weather is there as i heard it's not great.

Obviously my holiday is totally insignificant compared to what people are going through in the South of the country but nonetheless i have some decisions to make and need to contact both my hotel and Bangkok airways asap.

To be honest, you are looking two weeks into the future, and when the rain stops, the flood waters will disappear pretty quickly, apart from a few low lying areas. This weather is unusual, but I doubt it will last. They have big portable pumps in Samui, that they use to pump the floodwater away, so the streets will soon be clear.

If it was me, I wouldn't cancel, and those shops and businesses that are affected will be glad of your custom.

from what I heard a few days ago, a meteorologist was on TV saying that we might still continue to have cool weather here, which might mean some rain. The meteorologist said that by the end of today, we shouldn't have much rain in the South and it should clear up next week.

However, the cold wind from China will come back again on the 3rd and 4th, so further forecast will have wait, until they can see more of what the next cold wind will do.

We might not even have a hot Songkran here this year. A few of my friends are ordering water heater to be installed in front of the house for the water festival already. :-P

As for cancellation, there are two choices. Check the cancellation policy first, but most likely you might have to pay one night fee. Or wait until it's closer to the time and if the weather still be this extreme, then you might be able to cancel without charge. Quite a bet for both options though.

I got lucky twice so far planning for our holiday earlier in Jan. First we wanted to go to Japan but decided it was too expensive to go now because of the currency, and since we were down at the coast in Dec, we didn't want to go back to the seaside again in such a short time.

So we booked Chiang Mai and it seems to be the best choice! Hope we won't be in the epicenter of the earthquake though. :-P

Thanks Shannon

Unfortunately as i booked through agoda there is a no refund policy if you cancel within 14 days of the date of stay. I have emailed them to contact the hotel to see how bad they were affected but from some photos ive seen i'm guessing pretty bad as im due to stay at the Ark Bar Resort!!!

Just called to a hotel in Samui yesterday. Not the one u r going to stay but the guy said that the situation is getting better. There was only one night that the flood was really really bad, but apart from that things have been better. Not all the roads are flooded, and if certain parts are then there are a detour way to get around the island without any problem.

Also saw a photo from Koh Tao earlier this morning and it doesn't look too bad at all.

my friends are back to bkk from samui-kho pangan yesetrday night.

agoda refunded a pretty expensive resort.

the situation down there was crazy and navy ships couldn't dock to transport anyone.

for the future who knows, unpredictable, but south with flood, north with earthquake, center freezing...

what's your choice?
