MMMm I know this might whip up a storm but Im kinda happy the pope is dead, the man has caused an imense amount of suffering around the world, wars, rape, killing the mass spread of AIDS throughout Africa, poverty, starvation and all the rest. While the Vatican has amassed a wealth 2nd to none in its vaults.

Now Im going to have to listen about him non stop for days, thinking of not turning on the TV for 2 weeks, seeing his face kind of makes me feel sick, and to think we are going to have another brain washed moron to take his place!

GRRRRRRRRR

........ but on the good side of things I did win 2 bottles of prime super market Gin from dodgy diving dave, because I bet him that the pope would die before chrismas!

Peace

Couldnt agree with you more Beejoir. Glad you came out and said it.

I know that people say you should respect people's religious views but that is just rubbish. Religion of all sorts is responsible for most wars and most violence. The religious views that this guy propagated were irrational and highly dangerous. His other opinions on such things as homosexuals, contraception and stem cell research are just narrow minded and banal - akin to believing the world is flat.

Sadly I think it is unlikely his successor will be much of an improvement.

Many journalists have touted him as a great pope, I guess history will tell. I see Catholicism as you do, an arrogant, rigid and divisive religion that causes a tremendous amount of harm in the world. Interstingly, he was seen a progressive and modern despite his slow reactions to many problems of the modern era. This is part of the problem with electing any leader in their 60's. I mean, John Paul II was born in 1921? He is of a different age, schooled in a religion that was outdated a thousand years back then even.

Slurms, maturing is a process than begins with every new crop -- so it's an ongoing process. Don't denigrate those who want to make their points of view known. It may be old hat to you, as a wizened sage. But fresh minds need new knowledge and new avenues to seek that knowledge (which is why we have universities).

For the record, I despise the Vatican -- but I guess that attitude is not the peak of controversy, either, is it?.

When I make a joke about Catholics the day after Saint Patricks day and I get a bloody good grilling from a couple of Dubiliners, I suppose its ok to do it the day after the pope dies..

VERY IGNORANT COMMENTS HERE ABOUT THE DEATH OF A MAN WHO HAS DIED AT THE AGE OF 85 ANY RELIGION AND INSTITUTION IS MADE OF PEOPLE AND SO SAYING IT IS **** IS GROSSLY SIMPLISTIC AND IGNORANT.

THE POPE WAS THE HEAD OF A RELIGION WHO HAD CERTAIN BELIEFS YOU CAN DISAGREE WITH THEM AND NOT BE PART OF THAT PARTICULAR RELIGION BUT MAKING INSULTING COMMENTS ABOUT THE DEATH OF A MAN WHO WAS A TIRELESS CHAMPION FOR PEACE AND THE DIGNITY OF HUMAN BEINGS IS THE REAL SICK THING .

SHAME ON YOU FOR YOUR SHORTSIGHTED AND OFFENSIVE COMMENTS WHERE IS THE COMPASSION AND CONSIDERATION

i am a devotee atheist but that does not mean I cannot respect other peoples right to believe in whatever fanatsy they wish all religions have good value systems and morals if the spirit of them was carried out. The problem is the humans who use the religions to render them instruments of evil and destruction throughout history.

The politics of hate are never a good replacement for the established religions of the world be they catholic or otherwise.

SO WHAT HAS THE POPE EVER DONE FOR US................................................

Apart from condon the use of contraception killing millions through disease, could you imagine what a ghost town Patpong and Pattaya would be if everyone listened to the out dated moronic views of the pope?

Thats just a start, what about the abuse the tens of thousands of children have suffered under pedo priests, Ive met with 100s of these victims around the world!

Ive also worked as a war photographer seeing first hand the wars and blood shed in the name of religion!

CHAMPION FOR PEACZE AND DIGNITY............. so if a woman is gang raped and pregnant with the child from one of the many men that raped her, she cant have an abortion? Could you as a person live with that?

WAKE UP TO THE REAL WORLD THE CHURCH IS A FAKE MONEY MACHINE!!!

Peace and love

Chris

So we have to respect the right of peoples to believe in whatever they wish - like respecting the view held by many muslims that crashing a plane into the World Trade Centre will get them 72 virgins in the next life. Personally I think people need to be told that their fantasies are just that - their fantasies are inherently dangerous.

Another more sensible quote...

Society bends over backward to be accommodating to religious sensibilities but not to other kinds of sensibilities. If I say something offensive to religious people, I'll be universally censured, including by many atheists. But if I say something insulting about Democrats or Republicans or the Green Party, one is allowed to get away with that. Hiding behind the smoke screen of untouchability is something religions have been allowed to get away with for too long.

Liking the comment!

Why cant we critisize religion?

Cause it will offend?

We can critisize everything else!

So why can I exersize my views on religion?

mmmmmmmmm 72 virgins though worth ago!
