Border Run / Ankor Wat

OK then, I gotta do a border run to keep my visa in order on 21 May and I wanna go check out Angkor Wat and possibly Penhom Phen. Well, it's always much more pleasant to *not* travel alone, so, anyone want to join me? If so speak up and we'll get the ball rolling reservation wise and etc.

If you've already been there and have some advice, I'd like to hear it as well.

Hi Glen! Kicks ass that you'll be hitting the path to the wonders of Angkor!

I was in there about 2 weeks ago...and actually, my mind is still wandering among the magnificent temples!!! By the way, I have some cool pictures I have to post in my journal, but I'm kiikiat maak. :-P I'll try to do it this week-end.

Anyway, if I can give you a piece of advice, it would be: when in Poipet, try to get the hell outta there as soon as you can and don't listen to these "friendly" guys who will give you "special discount visa for you my friend". I've never been there, but I heard some nasty stories about farangs who experienced some problems with the mafia of Poipet. After that, when in Siem Reap if you have time, then take your time. The cheapest way would be probably to rent a bicycle or a motorcycle and go wherever you want by yourself. You will continuously be harrassed by the local people who will try to sell you a bottle of water for 1USD!! 8-o ...or bracelets, flutes, postcards, books, t-shirts...anything. I acknowledge that after a while, it is quite difficult to keep smiling and saying: "No, thank you. I don't want to buy anything".

Anyway, despite that, the people are quite welcoming and friendly and if you pay attention, your stay there should be pretty cheap. Regarding Phnom Penh, I wish I stayed longer there. Of course it is not loaded with amazing features as in Angkor, but the city is really nice.

Enjoy!!!

Sounds interesting, but im due the 29 or 30th.. dont want to loose those 7 precious days in bangkok. Hmm the forum is at this locatiion:

But I still dont know why it costs 1000 baht.. do they mean the 60 day visa or 30 day + some burocrat abuse in cambodia? Taking the plane to malaysia seems much more relax and almost same price.

Hey all, Thanx for your inputs! Sorry, I don't have a car here in Thailand, not really sure I'd want to try driving over here yet! Surely don't want to drive in Cambodia, heard too much about bandits and such.

I was thinking that I'd fly in and then do a bus to Phnom Penh, and then fly back from there. I'd like to avoid Poi Pet as much as possible since I've been there twice already on my last trip here.
