Singapore reloaded

Whew! Finally back in Bangkok! 10 days away from clubs, the internet (mostly) and the object of my affections - felt good to take a break but it feels even better to be back.

I just got back from a 6 day long trip to Singapore (with my parents). Quite nice I'd say but heres a list of things that caught my attention in the first two days (Just wondering if other people noticed the same) : LOTS of traffic lights, everyone - EVERYONE speaks english, lots of KIDS and um...non-single people, annoying pedestrian crossings and the taxis refused to stop anywhere but at taxi stands. Oh and the people go "lah" and "ah" a lot.

The first couple of days were spent exploring Orchard road and getting used to the currency and I think the real fun only started on day 3 when we went to Underwater World on Sentosa Island. I've always been mortally afraid of the oceans creepy crawlies but two thumbs up to this particular aquarium - the displays are fabulous. Soon after that was a trip to dolphin lagoon and I would've gladly jumped into the water with them but my dad came out with some undeniable logic about dirty water infecting my recent stitches ... bleah. Hehehe

Then came the night safari...also completely mesmerising and the animals are very well kept. I must admit though - I was too much of a chicken to go on the trails as I'm petrified of the dark. BUT I did have a GORGEOUS Burmese python wrapped around me (I have pics to prove it!) so that was the highlight of the trip.

The rest of the trip my Mum and I shopped till we dropped. The Great Singapore Shopping Sale started on the day we arrived and goes on for 6 weeks so I got some lovely stuff.

Another thing I did a lot of in Singapore was *cringe* EAT! We went for several buffet dinners and I think I ate more dessert than main dishes ! BUT - can't whine about enjoying myself !

I really did enjoy my stay in Singapore but it also reminded me how dear Thailand is to me - in particular how much I value the life I have here. I think I'd have a hard time leaving if the time came.

Yeah! Singapore is nice! I saw the underwater world as well on Sentosa - also a big pond with 1000's of koi fish in fantastic colours. And you could buy food for them, stick your hand into the water and they went absolutely crazy, it was like having 100 vacum cleaners sucking on your hand - very funny! In the evening I used to go to River Valley and have dinner - very nice place! And then there was China Town and Little India - very interesting for a western guy like me.

should have pm me (lor). can bring you to the places (hor) where locals hang around; that is where you find the authentic s'pore food (ley).

there is a pond in sentosa where they keep turtles, i put my hand in once. a turtle stopped by and rested its face against my hand (very trusting) and closed its eyes serenely. ever since, i became a turtle fan...

Well, you went to my motherland....Singapore is a FINE city and the people have been trained to be disciplined. When a Singaporean goes on a holiday elsewhere or drives in a foreign country, he will more than often feel the pressure of home and be well behaved in that country too. The english spoken by Singaporeans is actually called Singlish. That includes the Lah and Lor. Not only the chinese community use it but it is very much used by the Indians and the Malays as well. I have not gone back for the last 4 years and have yet to see the changes to the little island. I bet there are more rules as ever. Did you know that you are not allowed to chew gum in Singapore? Singapore bans chewing gum. Smoking is also ristricted to certain places only and not to mention mobile phones in Restaurants. They are normally banned in restaurants. You will have to leave it with the cashier or put it on Silent Mode. So much for Singapore. Good to hear you had a great time. Cheers

Actually the ban on chewing gum has been lifted but it has to be sugar free and sold only at pharmacies. I know about the no-smoking policies and they're good. The traffic lights and pedestrian crossings annoyed me a tad though hahaha. But its a wondeful city.
