seems like you guys have been having great times out together.

that's cool but how come i've never really seen any public invitation in this community lately?

i understand that we all wanan be surrounded with selected people that we somewhat can get along, enjoy talking with or comfortable to be around. but since this is an open space, i just think that it would be nicer if you would kindly make this community grow bigger rather than just narrowing it down to only a selected group.

well, i'm not enjoying my collection right now, because it's in toronto and i'm in bkk.

i guarantee there is no engelbert humperdinck (though i admire him for going through life with that name) and no zamfir. hmm, there's some classical, a lot of jazz and blues, hippie music, 70s stoner music, some 80s non-electropop (retch! die die die electropop! may a Flock of Seagulls fall into an oil slick!), and moby, st. germain, linkin park, red hot chili peppers, rap, hiphop, dance, latin, molam music from laos (very cool even though i can't understand what they're singing)... um... lamb, cape breton fiddle music... um, lots more that i can't remember, about 400cds i think, a small collection compared with a few of my friends.

so i think atomic will be arranging for a subway accident july 3....

I guess I have to reply to this. What has been happening has never been more than one person asking another. Word of mouth. And it has been good this way. If people have enjoyed themselves, they come back. If they have not, they don't. There is no real selectivity other than the people that are going asking other people to join them. There is also a social dynamic element and a limit to what 1 person can do and what one wants to do.

1) As we reached 20 people last night we all felt it. To many people. This was the first time people left saying I didn't get to talk with so and so. This dynamic itself tends to assist in keeping the numbers down- not out of selectivity but simple enjoyment. But no one is out ot control it hard core. If somebody did, we'd never see new people.

2) Something bigger is probably just around the corner but that will be up to Tom the Admin gentleman or someone else. Heck I'd be happy to go to to a larger one if somene called out an open invitation. It's just a real life conflict isn't it? People want to feel included when they attend a get together and smaller numbers lend themself to that. But in order to meet more people, the numbers have to increase. What to do?

Tom (Admin) has expressed an interest in holding TF Social Mixers and this would be fun. So I suggest if there are others out there that feel like you do that they contact Tom for just such an event at a local venue.

3) I myself will not be organizing anything like that for free. It's time consuming enough with 10-20 people- I am not gonna volunteer my time and possibly have a problem with a resturant or pub because I posted an "open invitation" on the net that resulted in 70-100 people showing up. You can imagine- someone is gonna get stuck with a bill and it aint gonna be me. No thanks.

4) Honestly speaking: I, and anyone of the TFer's who have gone can correct me if I mis-speak- have been the facilitator and arranger of these lil deals. So yes, there is a personal spin or drive behind it that I cater too but I would never tell anyone they could not attend. Absolutely, I depend on others I have invited to invite others. That's how Junior showed up- and now Bam, Anne, Janny, Rosy and heck almost everyone came from someone knowing someone else on TF! So it does work.

5) Additionaly, I am married. I am not out to "jeep sow". My motivation is to make frends, have some laughs and possibly develop good freinds from these get togethers that I can then enjoy in other settings with my wife and other freinds. I have invited people either because I thought they appeared interesting or they were married or engaged or had a serious bf/gf cause I would like to make more freinds. I'm sure there are people that want to "jeep sow and jeep chai" and that will happen anyway- so that's great too! But I will never put out an open invitation that would somehow, in anyway identify me as the person responsible when the **** hits the fan "so to speak." Am happy to let others do it though. Go ahead. I'll go.

6) Don't you live in like Canada or something? Why do you even care? lol

7) You raised a good topic. Maybe it can persuade Tom to get something going. Or for me to earn more money. hehe

i personally prefer small group meeting. but what i am speaking here is from a different perspective that is not for my own perference but rather for the rest of any TFers who might wanna join the fun.
