Why do farang expats look down their noses at farang tourists for going to bars and chasing girls when in 99% of cases this is exactly what they came to Thailand for in the first place.

1) Almost anybody who lives here quickly tires of the bar scene, assuming they liked it in the first place. Not everyone but I would say 90%. It's actually pretty rare to see a long-time expat who visits the bars more than once or twice a month because most people have jobs, etc. and better things to do.

2) Part of it is just simple "You're a tourist, I'm a traveler" snobbery, meaning it's just pretentious bullshit.

3) Finally, despite the fact that this is a dating site and that most people are here for a hook-up, the way people talk here you would think that sex - SHOCK - is the last thing on anyone's mind. Even though it's the raison d'etre of the site. Interestingly, the women don't seem to feel the need to express this odd point of view as much as the men. I find that rather amusing.

Thanks undercover. Well said! That has irritated me about this site for a while but I couldn't quite put it into words. Its all the hand-wringing about sex on this site. (I think you are referencing that scene in Casablanca....I'm shocked, SHOCKED, that there's gambling going on in here).

First of all, take a look at what some of the farangs come to BKK and do (expats and tourists alike). They run around chasing Thai women (a very embarassing sight for most onlookers), you'll often see them in girlie bars with their head stuck between a dancer's legs (and these same guys go home to a "holiday gf" or worse - bring the gf with them!), you might find them yelling noisily and making a nuisance of themselves in a bar, you might find them running around on the road in a drunk stupor, leaning out of tuk-tuks and howling like apes, walking around half-naked without taking a shower because they're 'in a warm climate', you might find them dragging a trophy gf around by the wrist and still being obnoxious and vulgar in her presence ...is it any wonder they get looked down upon?

Secondly, from what I've seen, a lot of the expats here feel that they have one-up on the tourists because: they may speak some Thai, they know the best places to eat, they know how to get around the city, they know how to get no-strings sex without paying for it, they may have a Thai gf or wife (see notes above on trophy women), they're part of the expat community in BKK and so, have more friends,they manage to stick their head's between dancer's legs once in a a while but not as much as before so of course, they're better. They manage a 'sawadee krap' now and then - which has them convinced that they are indeed, Asians in a white man's body...is it really any wonder that they feel they have the moral high ground?

Of allllllll the men I've met in Thailand, I could perhaps count on the fingers of my hands those that I consider decent and proper steady bf/ husband material.

I generally agree with the rest of your post, but I think the above is a bit overstated and perhaps descending to the type of sweeping generalizations that you are complaining about regarding Thai women.

I know tons of really nice farang guys here who are married or in Long Term Relationships who do not cheat on their wives, who have good jobs, etc... I have lots of Thai male friends also and they ALL cheat on their wives, every single one, absolutely no exceptions. The more upper-class they are, the more they cheat. (Adultery is expensive.)

There are even a few nice people on TF....

I am just trying to get you to adhere to some kind of rhetorical honesty. You shouldn't make sweeping generalizations and then deny you made a sweeping generalization. That's my point. And I get yours. And I'm not nitpicking!!

You want to argue this, have a look at the industry in Thailand and who owns it, an example is AIS and DTAC. See who is benefitting and using the scene approved by the Thai people because you vote in the government that allows it. You allow the government to keep it open. I would like to make a comparison to the Island im living in located in the Caribean.

As an Expat i do come accros tourists from amongst others, my country.

(Un)Fortunately, this island is not known for its big prostitution business, but for its beaches. Unfortunately because it would bring in some hard cash for the local economy which would boost the general welfare of the island.

I guess there is around 20% unemployment, significantly more with no/limited educated people. A big pull comes from the drugs trafficing industy, giving alot of oportunities for youngsters to earn some serious cash.

Now lets get back the reason of this Thread:

1. Locals dont like "foreigners"/expats living and working on there island.

2. Foreigners/expats dont like tourists as the all behave like drunk bums (expections noted).

Again here is a serious disliking to anything thats different.... Not just related to Thailand not just related to the prostitution business.

I have traveled and worked in many countries and my personal experience is that this situation is the same anywere...

Shouldn't you be asking yourself that question? What have I said that's off topic? It's common knowledge that some farang men are looked down upon by expats and Thais alike...mostly because of aforementioned behaviour. My post illustrates that sometimes expats can be just as sleazy as sex tourists which does not give them the right to take the moral high ground.

Like I said...if the cap fits wear it...otherwise leave me alone. If you think my opinion is jaded or that I'm lying or that I'm arrogant then c'est la vie I'm afraid. I'm not overly eager to win everyone's approval about what I think/say.

and i dont think most residents give a **** about tourists going to bars, we just laugh at them coz they act like idiots who can't get laid outside of a gogo bar. the most hysterically funny thing i see regularly in bangkok is guys parading their bargirl around town like they're so proud they finally got a date for once in their life (like nobody can figure out he's paying her :roll:

i used to live in williamsburg, brooklyn. as it developed into a hipster enclave, people were incredibly snobbish about how long they'd been living there. used to have great fun torching assholes by telling them i moved *out* before they moved there. some of that attiitude here, but i have generally found expats here to be fairly approachable and down-to-earth. maybe i'm running with the wrong crowd though.

with the caveat that some tourists *anywhere* act like idiots and deserve ridicule. if you wear tall white socks with your sandals and jeans shorts (hereinafter "jorts") this could be you...

well i think that's horseshit.

firstly, there are vast numbers of threads in these forums that are sex-and-rutting related, and not all of them are started by pattayadaz.

secondly, not wanting to know how many fingers some pindick bugfucker who can't get laid where he comes from sticks up his bargirl's ass when he's bangin' her hardly counts as prudishness or a lack of interest in sex. neither does not wanting to divulge what goes on in my bedroom, on my balcony, in the car, or on the stairs of sapahn taksin.

if you look at HOW many women on the site and HOW many men, you shouldnt' find it surprising that the vast majority of expressing of ANYTHING is done by men--the site is mostly farrang men.

and YES hooking up is the raison d'etre for the site overall, although a lot of people in the forums (self included) are not on TF to hook up. so? why does that mean that the TF forum, one of the few non-stickman-like forums having to do with thailand and the only one that isn't boring, should become more like stickman. isn't there a stickman site already?
