Why do farang expats look down their noses at farang tourists for going to bars and chasing girls when in 99% of cases this is exactly what they came to Thailand for in the first place.

what really is irritating about many sex tourists is the way they assume EVERY woman they meet ANYWHERE is available to them for hire and accordingly treat them with LESS respect than they should treat ANY bargirl.

I generally agree with the rest of your post, but I think the above is a bit overstated and perhaps descending to the type of sweeping generalizations that you are complaining about regarding Thai women.

Note that I said "off all the men I have met. Taking the sample of men that I've come across out from the general population of farang men, I've made that statement. This does not mean that every other man is a dog...just means that I've seperated the chaff in my own basket of wheat.

If you, as a woman, are going to make broad generalizations about farangs, you can't complain if farangs make broad generalizations about Thai women.

See above...I haven't made generalisations on ALL farang men. I've simply classified the men I know into chalk and cheese. Note my use of the words "some" and "a lot"...which indicate I'm considering a sample as opposed to the entire population.

Funny thing is that this was a silly topic, with a silly question..... i would expect to see some silly anwsers and/or semi serious anwsers. But no.

It seems that its more important to fight about things people write, what facts they use, how they use it...and god knows.. what they mean by it...without even saying it. I guess some need to win someting (or maybe my wrong impression).

That is one thing... but what i really dislike is that some of us not only attact content but also characters/personalities... thats ******* low. Not more or less than a very weak self defence.

- I have read some of Princess's replies on journals/forum: i do tend to agree with what Mike said.... I dont know her, her friends, her life...so cannot say that its true or not... just my impression (i wont judge u for it);

Since you seem to be trying to lump me into some club that I don't want to be a member of, allow me to clarify.

My original post attempted to answer the guy's question, nothing more.

My follow-up post to Princess took issue with her statement for, as I noted, rhetorical reasons.

I didn't question the original poster's "99%" number because it was obviously an exaggeration for rhetorical effect and he is asking a question, not making any inflammatory statement.

However, I found Princess's statement, while understandable and sympathetic, a bit over the top precisely because of how she phrased it.

As I tried to point out in my example about Albanians, qualifying a broad racial statement is not going to make it any less offensive and that's why it's a hot button issue for people.

If you say, "I've never met an Australian who wasn't a loud-mouthed drunken idiot", most people are going to parse that sentence as your having an extreme personal antipathy for Australians. And rightly so. And to say later that you are qualifying that statement by only including the Australians you've met is extremely disingenuous. I would imagine if you sat down in a room full of Australians and made that statement you would not be walking out of the place, but that's because all the Australians that I've met are.... ooops, never mind!

I don't understand the furious attempts to defend her comment. At all. If a farang made a similar derogatory comment about Thai women, he would be mercilessly attacked as being a racist.

In any event, I know --- AND HAVE MET --- lots of nice farangs and lots of nice thai people.

opinions generally aren't worth much. but everything we'd like to know about the world cannot be learnt in great enough detail through science. especially things having to do with humans interacting with one another.

if opinions based on what's happened in someone's life are limited in scope and not portrayed as universal laws of nature, they can be useful. learning from your own experience is great, sure, but learning from someone else's experience can be useful.

if i tell you "pig brains taste exactly as disgusting as they look, dont bother." it's obviously an opinion based on what's happened in my life (i got drunk enough to let myself get talked into eating pig brains.) is that meaningless? you are welcome to try pigbrains for yourself.
